New EU Emission Requirements Force Mercedes To Axe 75% Of AMG Models
According to the Financial Times, the downsizing of Mercedes’ performance offering could be the manufacturer’s only choice if it is to bring its current fleet emissions rating of 138g/km down to a target of 100g/km. AMG models are among the brand’s most polluting, typically using much larger, more inefficient powertrains than their Mercedes-Benz-badged counterparts.

AMG's are Mercedes biggest profit generators so if this is true expect significant price hikes across the board to make up for lost profits, particularly on remaining AMG models.

Benz has been preparing for this, they have the best selling “performance lineup” in the premium sector, trust and believe they have a few tricks up their sleeve

It's like the USA 1970s and 1980s all over. Those were not the best cars as engineers were spending all their time dealing with piles of new regulations.

Regulations wiped out the original muscle cars because the mfg didn't know how to make them run clean. Now we have engines that deliver 460hp and 29mg. If the motors need to run cleaner I am sure AMG can do it, even it it means a bit less power.

Consumers should be able to decide what they want to buy. Let the market work as it is supposed to.

This is exactly what I was saying in another thread. There is nothing that the American right wing can do to stop the world from ramping down and eventually halting production of polluting ICE automobiles. The entire world now is concentrating government efforts to restrict emissions and only those auto manufacturers who can develop EV tech rapidly will survive. Laughably pandering and childish efforts by certain American politicians to lower emissions and fuel standards back to the 1950’s will do nothing to turn the tide. nothing.

Most of the world has made its mind up to try and make the world a better place with lower emissions from tailpipes. No car manufacturer wants to be left behind in this effort now. The next generation all new AMG or M cars will be full EVs. Count on it.

Don't forget, the biggest reason that each generation of US vehicles gets bigger is the 2012 EPA Footprint Rule. This rewards Detroit for increasing the length and width of truck and SUV wheelbases in lowering their CAFE requirement. Detroit also has a 5% import duty protection on the trucks, so...don't expect to see any serious new technology vehicles coming from Detroit.

Has nothing to do with “Right Wing” it has everything to do with the consumers. If the consumers don’t buy them then what? A pushback on government overreach is happening worldwide. Australia recently changed government based solely on a rejecting the Green agenda. Brexit was a rejection dictated mandates from Brussels, the yellow vest protests France began as a rejection related to a Green mandate. Italy is going through a similar internal upheaval. Of the major advanced free economies Only the Germans seem to be compliant to the heavy hand of Brussels.

I am sure that you are doing your part by have a 0.0000% carbon foot print. In other words, your foot print is on your skate board. Please tell me I have this correct !!!

rockreid has rocks for brains

The reality is that current emissions are sufficiently tough as a STOPPING point.

Wow how will we compete being one of the few, if almost the only one with any significant market share that makes cars that are much too dirty to sell in most other large car markets? Maybe we should adopt the stiffer regulations of California and the 12 other states that agree with them. It might help us remain competitive world wide instead of creating our own polluted backwater to play in.

Not to worry about MB. They are switching over to EV's which generating much greater profits that conventional petrol vehicles.
Besides, I would expect AMG to become masters of hot rod electric motors.
As an old slot car racer, there are lots of things that can be done to increase power output of an electric motor.

True is Europe has been behind the US and Japan in efficient low emission power trains. Go to Germany and you'll see the Prius taxi's and Tesla's.

They will be brought back in EV form with more power and better performance. So win win situation.
