Tesla Y Performance Caught In It's Full Glory - Are You A Believer Now?

Tesla Model Y sightings may be getting more frequent as of late, but each encounter can still be likened to seeing amazing beasts in the wild. That’s what happened over the weekend to two Tesla fans who spotted the upcoming electric crossover in San Luis Obispo and Contra Costa County in California. And to make things more exciting, one of the vehicles appears to be a Tesla Model Y Performance.

Horrible. It needed to look like a crossover/suv i.e. more upright rather than just a big bloated hatchback. So is this the one prototype?

Yup this thing is going to sell like hot cakes, it’s not about how upright or SUV like it is since we all know it’s never going off road, its Tesla learning their consumers who asked for a slightly raised driving position of the model 3 with similar driving dynamics and more practicality

Price competitively, it will easily become the brand’s new best seller and finally give Tesla a ticket to the feeding frenzy of cute utes now

It's ungainly and hideous.

Which fits right in with the ungainly/hideous segment it’s aimed for

MDarringer: It's ungainly and hideous.

Stop projecting.

If anything, MD is being generous in his observation. If any other automaker made anything this ugly (Pontiac tried with the Aztek) it would die in the market.

It doesn't look bad at all, a bit generic but definitely not hideous. Definitely looks nicer than the X, maybe even the 3. The 3/4 angle from the rear is the worst, from any other angle it looks good. The Y is designed for practicality and self driving, it's not going to stand out like the frickin Cybertruck.

Red and blue I think are the best colors for it. The red one at the investor event looked really nice.

based on Model3 performance, the ModelY should be no different. Only a different exterior form/proportions. The Y should have similar or better performance & range as the 3. An actual surprise would be if it didn't.

ModelY looks more like a rakish coupe CUV, which isn't bad. It rides that fine line b/t hatchback & CUV. The design wasn't intended to be mainstream like other similarly sized CUV's.

"Rakish"?!? It looks about as rakish as a pile of sh*t someone stepped on.

If they use the exact same platform it has to be a bit slower and have less range since it is larger and heavier. Somehow it will be more aerodynamic than the 3, but that won't be enough to compensate for size and weight.

Pictures are never a good judge for me about how I'll feel about a car. I've seen pictures that looked good but seeing it for real was a letdown, and pictures that were bland but I liked it in real life. So I'll reserve my opinion until I can see and drive one. Since I won't be in the car market for another couple of years, plenty of time to see them.

Is this Tesla's minivan or compact suv? They just got 1.4 billion from the Chinese, in a few years they will completely purchase the company.

It's a little bit of both like the X. It seats 7 but doesn't have a massive footprint. It honestly doesn't look much larger than the 3 in person, but is quite a bit larger on the inside.

Horrible looking. Should have a Pontiac badge on it. Or maybe Saturn.
