LEAKED?! IF THIS Is The All-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class' Interior Are You IMPRESSED or DEPRESSED?
So, a funny thing happened to me on the internet the other day. I was looking into the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Dubbed the W223, it's expected to bring forward an all-new era for Mercedes.

As every S-Class has done before.

Although the latest exterior spy shots depict a design that seems to be an evolution, its interior is a completely different story. It's unlike any other three-pointed star to see production.

That's because it makes use of a 12-inch screen for its instrument panel and then there's a HUGE screen that takes up the entire center stack. Hmm, I wonder where the Germans got their inspiration?

I've seen a bunch of interior spy shots that reveal certain components at this point and this image that appears to have been printed in a magazine looks awfully legit. In fact, I don't think it is a render. It looks to be the real deal. It was published earlier in the year but I missed it.

From the screens to the steering wheel to the HVAC vents in the dash, it is looking very in line with Mercedes' latest products. Even the center console's sliding door is exactly the same as the latest GLS-Class.

This may be the real deal.

Having said that I've got to ask: IF THIS is the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class' interior, are you IMPRESSED or DEPRESSED?

This is the future unfortunately. We have to embrace it like we did with our smartphones. No doubt the Mercedes S class will have a cloud like ride, level 3 autonomt, sexy exterior and luxury appointments that no Tesla will ever have, and prestige. I am down for it.

Holy fat steering wheel Batman. Buyers better have huge hands and women need not apply (unless they have manly large hands).

That was MY first impression - that the steering wheel is too thick
And that it is that thick tells me this is not the real thing

Still - I am more interested in how the seats feel - than how big the screens are - since a Driver cannot use them for media watching legally. I find myself making more and more sticks full of music - and using the features of the Multi-media systems less and less. In my Mini-Van - I found that I almost NEVER used the Screen for Movies for the Grandchildren as well. I still prefer driving my car.

Stick full of music? That seems old school compared to just saying "Play <anything>" or using your Spotify playlists. The wave of the future is play whatever you want whenever you want without any physical media.

Why are tou compairing this to Tesla? Tesla owners like simplicity minimalistic designs, Tesla will cause this an over complicated ol school history hot mess.

Try keeping those screens clear of finger smudges and when you do make sure the car is turned off or you'll set off every function imaginable. And what's with that wheel...a replacement for an air bag maybe?

Can you drive and play on a MB ipad ??? for all the Tesla haters, I am one, this is a clear admission that Tesla, is moving the industry in ways that are not all about the batteries and electric power. MB interiors are the industry best, so they poach a good idea and improve on it.. good for them...

Ilexus

Why you still drive Lexus amazes me. Their infotainment system is one big HOT mess and outdated. GOOD LUCK.

yea, I was surprised too. I considered buying a Lexus but every owner review I read complained not only about the interface, but continuing technical glitches.

I like it. If you're going to do screens, then DO SCREENS. This interior is a screen-designed interior rather than a conventional interior with screens tacked on. I'm not a huge fan of screens, but if that is accurate, it's another massive win for Mercedes Benz.

Nothing in that picture looks well integrated or to scale.

Not a lot of creativity here as they seem to be copying the Tesla dash. I always wonder from a safety standpoint if you crash, how is a screen better than soft touch materials or softer plastics? What happens if you hand hits the screen with force?

This is an old-ish render from several months ago, not a spy shot or leak. The stalks on the steering column for example are from the current generation, whereas the newer models and true spy shots of the upcoming interior show the cylindrical design.

Curious to see what MB hopes to accomplish with this?
Converting Tesla buyers - perhaps?
Appealing to younger rich people who buy Porsche's - perhaps?
Confusing and confounding the very rich but "traditional" S-Class Customers - most likely?
Losing ('traditional' customer) sales to more 'conservative' brands like BMW's 7-Series - very strong possibility.

I think BMW is the clear winner here. Bleeding edge user interface, IMO, is not a positive in this segment.

There really isn't a carmaker today that seems to have the "ideal" execution of screens and controls. Benz's current dual-screen setup is my favorite for visibility. Audi's are my least favorite due to too many screens on too many planes of view. Tesla's are just not aesthetic. Every manufacturer's design seems to have some flaw. Ergonomically, BMW's might be good, but the aesthetic leaves much to be desired.

No thanks. I hate touchscreen everything. I greatly prefer knobs and switches. And the dash styling of the hvac vents has taken a step backward.

I get that screens are the future, but can't anyone integrate them into the design rather than make it look like someone left their ipad on the dash?

I'm very surprised Mercedes-Benz decided to go the all-touch screen route following in the footsteps of Tesla and Audi. Mercedes-Benz has until this point been devoted to the traditional interior with buttons.

The giant screen marks a departure from the traditional interior but doesn't integrate well. There is a huge gap behind the screen and the dash. How are people supposed to reach the storage compartment behind?

If this is true, BMW will be the only one of the German 3 still devoted to the traditional button-interior.

I want to drive a car. I don't want to drive my iPhone. I don't want to drive my office desktop. I want a car. I want a unique experience. I do not want everything that I do be an iteration of everything else I do. That is so boring.
