UAW Locals Want A Constitutional Ammendment To Combat Corruption
UAW members at eight union locals in Ohio, New York, Kentucky, Michigan and Illinois voted for a convention to address union corruption, The Detroit News reported Monday.

Most of the eight locals asking for the convention backed a resolution from the Unite All Workers for Democracy movement to amend the UAW constitution. The amendment would require "direct referendum elections" of union leaders and increase financial transparency, Kenneth Larew, a 23-year UAW member who works at General Motors' plant in Spring Hill, Tenn., told the newspaper.

#1 Make union membership 100% optional in all 50 states by law.
#2 Ban unions for ALL political action.
#3 Ban unions from making political contributions.
#4 Force union leadership to work pro bono for the love of the workers.

Hell, just fucking kill the UAW in fire.

#1 and #2 will accomplish everything else on your list, including ending the union.
No constitution change will end the corruption, just change its nature.
Public unions should definitely be banned from making political contributions as it is a direct conflict on interests.

Unions came into existence ONLY because there were no laws protecting workers. Those laws exist now. It use to be believed that non-union workers had no right to due process if they were to be fired, but court cases have upheld that right of not only due process but appeal.

Ban all PACs and political contributions from corporations and unions. US citizens only can contribute and only up to $2000.

Also "those laws exist now" in actuality they are fairly threadbare, companies are not required by law to give you vacation, they are not required by law to provide you health insurance (they could take the tax penalty instead which more and more are doing now), salary negotiations are 1 vs Company. There is more to it than simply being pro-union or anti-union or pro corporate power etc...

The S/C has already said corporations are people so that ruling is settled, especially after Ruth Buzzy Ginsberg if finally allowed to leave life support.

What "politicians" should be forced to do, with penalty of the law and impeachment is to report where every nickel comes from. They dont now... That Citizens united SC decision will eventually be overturned. It was rogue Cheif Justice Robert's trying to give republicans an advantage in elections. It was already settled law, there was no reason to change. It is as anti-democratic as imaginable.

If a company doesn't meet your expectations, work somewhere else. Entitlement culture has to go. People deserve NOTHING just for breathing air.

Truthy - you're wrong again. If unions can be involved in the political process, why cannot the companies that employ those citizens. Roe V Wade will be overturned before.

Before you answer or post about corporations and unions being allow to contribute to PAC's or directly to campaigns, you should see what is allowed in countries outside of the USA. You may find yourselves being a bit backwards. Elections are about people, not groups and not companies.

Embattled union honchos’ lavish spending exposed: Villas, four-figure dinners, $60,000 cigar bill.

This is just one example of expenses allegedly made by Jones, Pearson and others, which prosecutors say were made via accounts set up with hotels such as the Royal Palm Springs Hotel (RPSH) and Loews Coronado Bay Resort, where they had training conferences. The hotels then paid outside vendors on the UAW officials’ behalf, “as a way to conceal the embezzling of union funds for their own personal use,” the complaint says.

GM, FCA and Ford should simply refuse to recognize the UAW anylonger, and refuse to negotiate with ANY UAW representative... Its corrupt cancer...

So easy to tell working people to take what the boss gives them and shut up. Also, it won't work for long.

Do we think workers should unionize or not?

Interesting. It seems as though one side of the political spectrum believes companies should be allowed to do whatever they want in regards to workers who actually punch in a time clock and actually make things with their hands. These same companies have enormous resources including judges and politicians in their back pocket ready to deliver any rulings or regulation standards deemed good for quarterly profits and quarterly huge bonus payouts for senior execs.

It’s almost as if a large percentage of the country now sides with the people who want everything in the world and don’t want to pay anything in return. It’s kind of a thought process like there is no such thing as a middle class...only billionaires who are temporarily embarrassed by living as lower or middle class right now. ..as I said before, ...interesting.
