SUV WARS! The All-new BMW X7 And Mercedes-Benz GLS Go Head-to-Head — WHICH Gets Your Vote?
In the world of three-row sport-utility vehicles, it's pretty clear that there's a couple standouts at the moment. That would be the all-new BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class.

Both have just reached the market and both feature the latest technology from their respective manufacturer.

Thankfully, I have driven both and I can say they're equally impressive. But, they both do things a bit differently — to be expected. In my opinion you can't go wrong with either as it really boils down to subjective points.

Which one's ride do you like better? Which vehicle's infotainment works better for your needs? Which auto's styling speaks more to you. You know, that kind of stuff.

Having said that, I wanted to present you with a thorough clip that goes through the positives and negatives of each vehicle. Then, let us know: WHICH three-row SUV gets your vote? The BMW X7 or Mercedes-Benz GLS?

2020 BMW X7 vs Mercedes-Benz GLS Review by The Straight Pipes. The BMW X7 M50i has 523hp and 553lb ft tq, while the Mercedes GLS450 has 362hp 369lb ft tq. While these trims are not exactly matched, you can get the Mercedes GLS580 with 483hp and 516lb ft tq, or the BMW X7 40i with 335hp and 332lb ft tq. Now that all of that is clear, the Mercedes-Benz GLS450 is optioned out to $105,990 CAD and the BMW X7 M50i is sitting at $134,200 CAD. In this battle of luxury SUV's, would you pick the BMW X7 or the Mercedes GLS?

agreed.

but i'd take the X7 over the GLS only bc i'm a fan of the Cullinan.

but i'd be swayed by the Merc-Maybach GLS.

I still don't know why Rolls Royce named their SUV after a serial killer.

Agreed, GLS all day, X7 design is polarizing and will be outdated in 2 yrs while GLS will age well

X7 is better - at least the styling is distinctive and the interior is posh.

GLS looks so plain on the outside, it could pass for a big Highlander or a Honda Pilot - generic by definition.

Even the shots of the Maybach GLS looks like they 'pep-boy'd' a standard one with chrome, rims, and wood. It just looks silly.

If BMW was smart, they'd make an Alpina X7 or a V12 one (Alpina one would probably make more sense) and charge $150,000 for it.

Sidebar - I saw my first Cullinan last night on Flowers after the LA Clipper's game and its such a dead-ringer for the X7 in silhouette that it makes itself redundant. I still have not seen a Cullinan in public in the NYC area and the NYC RR dealer has them on discount already. ($40,000 off advertised).

BMW X7 all the way for me! The bolder exterior design, better performance, and more intuitive infotainment system versus the Mercedes-Benz GLS does it for me.

I would take the X7 over the GLS as well. I have seen a few X7s in town in black and white and they look sharp and are not as big as I thought they would be.

GLS headlights looks dumb and incompetent
and the side profile looks like a minivan?!

GLS all day and all night. Why would they compare the 8-cylinder vs. the 6-cylinder? I like the looks of the GLS better. Much cleaner and refined. The X7 in person looks ungainly and oddly proportioned. The interior of the GLS is worlds better in terms of design aesthetic. The X7 looks rather staid and a bit generic.

Comparing a GLS 450 to the X7 M50 is like comparing a V6 camaro to a GT500 Mustang! They need to do apples to apples for it to make sense!

Poor comparison on spec and price. Nevertheless the GL looks better to me and will likely be a better vehicle over time. We all know that BMW’s have issues... especially as they age.

The X7 for sure, but I did not understand why they did not chose both in V8 form and similarly equipped for a comparison test that is not skewed in any one direction.
