OFFICIAL! Ford Updates Us On The Mustang Mach-E's Progress — ONE Trim Level SOLD OUT...
About one month ago we passed along word from a Ford representative that stated the Mustang Mach-E First Edition was sold out. Well, now it's official.

The First Edition has been claimed.

There is some good news, however: IF you want a Mustang Mach-E, orders can still be placed for the GT, Premium and other trims.

In addition to that news, Ford also provided some interesting stats. Some are surprising, others are not.

Take, for example, the fact that 80-plus-percent of buyers are opting for the extended range battery — duh. Apparently, the most popular color is a steel gray known as Carbonized Gray.

Ford's press release follows:

Mustang Mach-E First Edition Reservation Facts

Reservations for the First Edition of the Mustang Mach-E are officially full -- though other models like the Premium edition and the GT are still available for pre-order. Here are some key facts from the reservations bank:

  • 2021 Mustang Mach-E First Edition reservations are full
  • Carbonized Gray is the most popular choice with 38 percent choosing it, with Grabber Blue Metallic 35 percent and Rapid Red 27 percent
  • More than 80 percent of U.S. customers are reserving Mach-E with an Extended Range Battery
  • About 55 percent are opting for all-wheel drive
  • Almost 30 percent of U.S. customers are choosing the Mach-E GT
  • More than a quarter of all reservations are coming from California

IMO if they'd named it the Fiesta E, or even Focus E... Possibly Fusion E... this would not have sold out anything. They gave it a strong name and pushed the envelope... I think calling it the Mustang Mach E was sheer brilliance...

At first I thought Ford was bastardizing a long-standing icon. Now, I totally agree that Mustang Mach E for an electric crossover is a great marketing strategy. Plus Ford delivered the goods ...

You are both right, but part of me still feels using “Mustang” on this is sacrilegious. The naming was a move to ensure sales volumes. I would have preferred another horse name with Mach E and maintained the Mustang styling elements. This way you link the heritage without offending the original Mustang brand and its loyal followers.

Mustang club people who see the Mach E realize that it's really a Mustang.

The "first edition" is nothing special. It simply refers to the first-production "learning" cars where they roll down the line for real after the pilot production models.

The order book is not open on the Mach E, so yes, a person can put a deposit down but that this point there is no way to order your actual car. As with the 2015 Mustang, they build a run of "first edition" cars to observe production that they marketed as a "thing", but plenty of the conventional models showed up as well.

Currently, we have 11 deposits @ 50% (projected) down. We do not take $1K deposits. We also have a cancellation fee.

I fully think that we will be able to quickly sell every Mach E we can get. I've been to a Mustang club event where Ford brought the Mach E and people went gaga for it.

A text book example of how to capitalize on what you’ve already got. Hoping Cadillac can see what is possible AND a Corvette Brand with multiple “hits”...

I get the appeal of the name and this thing might be great, but the side profile is every bit as awkward as the Model Y.
