Hyundai N Division Says It Has Porsche In It's Sights
Once the helmsman of BMW's racy M division, Albert Biermann has turned Hyundai's own N division skunkworks into an overnight success. Cars like the phenomenal Veloster N, the prototype RM19, and reportedly terrific i30 N (unavailable in the United States), informed now-great expectations of future N cars, which Biermann revealed in an interview could go as far upmarket as Hyundai pleases—as long as there's money to be made.

You benchmark the best when you design and if you're aspiring, you do likewise because even if you fall short, you'll have achieved something quite good.

The Genesis Coupe should have been aimed squarely at the Mustang with a V8 for $35K and a V6 and 2.0T below it. That strategy would also work today because in the end--for Genesis especially--its sales that count.

It can also make you look foolish if you're aiming too high. Hyundai has yet to build any car that resembles a Porsche in any way, shape, or form. To put it out there that you're aiming for one of the most iconic brands when you can't even outright beat Honda/Toyota at the main core of your current business, it can come off as a bit foolish.

Most ridiculous article headline I've read in here.

What's more likely to happen: The N division is a big success, or the N division get's scrapped because no is buying a performance Hyundai.

Shouldn't Hyundai focus on making cars that don't suck ass first?

Good for Hyundai. Smart move pulling over Albert from BMW as it adds some credibility out of the gate. They do need to temper expectations as I doubt they will steal sales from Porsche for quite some time. But start that journey today!
