Tesla Slated To Make Its FIRST Chinese-made, Model 3 Deliveries By Early Next Week
Tesla Inc will deliver its first China-made Model 3 sedans to the public on Jan. 7 at an event at its Shanghai plant, a representative for the firm told Reuters on Thursday...

...Fifteen Tesla employees who had purchased the car were the first to take delivery on Monday after the first China-made vehicles rolled off the plant’s production line in October.

The deliveries come a year after construction of Tesla’s only plant outside the United States began. Production started in October with a target of 250,000 vehicles per year once the Model Y is added to the line up.

“As Model 3s roll off Tesla’s Chinese manufacturing facility with local subsidies intact, we believe the U.S.-based focus will need to shift globally for the company,” Canaccord Genuity analyst Jed Dorsheimer wrote in a note to clients...

To clarify, they are delivering cars to employees right now and will start shipping cars to consumers on the 7th. It's crazy that it took them a year to ramp up production at the Fremont Factory to 2k cars/week and in China they turned a piece of empty land into a factory producing cars in the same amount of time. It looks like they learned some things, hope Germany goes as smoothly.

And like most things made in China it will soon start to fall apart (the factory and cars). I've seen new construction in China as I spent lots of time there. No rebar for the cement walls and floors -no problem. Old bikes, steel clothes hangers and any other scrap metal objects will be used instead. China makes shit on the cheap by cutting corners and won't last long before structural problems start to occur.

"...And like most things made in China it will soon start to fall apart (the factory and cars). ..."

...it will fall apart just in time for China to start churning out its own version of the Model 3 - so much for the theory that China will buy out Tesla...why buy it when they can steal the technology for free and churn out Chinese copies?

The business case that Tesla is a Chinese acquisition story is officially dead - China doesn't need Tesla to sell EV's in China (and at this point, that is all they really care about - the US export market for autos is a very low priority because there are so many demands for EV's in China due to government mandate.

This is a nice press release but a really cataclysmic development for Tesla shareholders in my opinion.

Racist bigotry: "And like most things made in China it will soon start to fall apart..."

China is delivering MANY high quality products in many fields.

The Buick Envision--yeah no one really buys them--is well-made and reliable.

China's manufacturing skills have become outstanding. Some of the highest end tech products like the iPhone 11 and many expensive semiconductors are built there.

Nah, but I think they are building the Model Y in the tent right now at the Fremont Factory. Hoping someone will get spyshots.

Hence I said "MOST" -not "ALL" so use one of your 17 college degrees and read before commenting and looking to start a fight. I know China can make quality goods so spare me your bullshit as everyone here knows you are the biggest hypocrite and racist asshole on this blog. Oh yes that's right only the KIA salesman can make disparaging comments about Canadians, Mexicans or any other race -got it! We all just put up with you as you are quite knowledgeable about cars (HINT -stick to that!) and your posts can indeed be entertaining at times.

Here is where you respond by "Trigged much? I'm so smarter and better than you because....

Agree 100%. I'm opening a factory in Ningbo and would not dare to ever have anything proprietary or high value IP made there for fear of it being ripped off, duplicated etc. The factory will only be used for forging, soldering, assembly and machining of labor intensive parts. I really hate to go offshore but have to in order to stay competitive as all my competitors are already full Chinese production and killing me on cost.

Did we tariff these cars?

The Chinese cars are only for the Chinese market. It's also only the base Model 3 trim. If someone in China wants a AWD or Performance Model 3, they are buying an American Import. The US gets the better deal here overall.
