Car And Driver Long Term Model 3 Suffers Catastrophic Failure With Only 5,200 Miles Under The Belt

A Tesla Model 3 being tested by Car and Driver suffered a weird “catastrophic failure” on Christmas day while it was parked, the publication details.

While parked in suburban Detroit for a Christmas gathering, Car and Driver staff photographer Michael Simari received a push-notification on his phone that read “Your car suffered a failure and will no longer drive. Contact Tesla Roadside for assistance.” At the time of the notification, the long-term Model 3 had just 5,286 miles (8,506 km) on the clock.

"Not according to the vast majority of owners"

How do we know, Tesla won't let JD Powers talk with them.

The vast majority of owners are either ignorant to the low quality issues overshadowed by the type, or too embarrassed to admit the mistake they made

@jeff It's emperor's new clothes. They drank the KoolAid and now that it tastes bitter, they can't say so.

Wow, it made it that far?
Cue the fanboys making excuses.

Looks like a short caused a blown fuse. Nice repair policy, Tesla apparently covers almost any rental car from Enterprise that you want (C&D took a BMW) and Tesla will take car of returning the rental. Heck many other "premium" dealers are now making people schedule service way out in order to get a loaner car.

You are dead wrong. I schedule my MB typically a few days in advance. They have had a loader for me with as little as one day. Same for my Acura. You fanboys make things up to try to help Tesla's image.
A friend had a Tesla for 18 months, but just unloaded due to horrible service. Being completely dead and needed to be flatbedded with only 5,000 miles is pretty much limited to Tesla these days.
You also had a stupid saying that Toyota only sold 170,000 cars globally in December. That was US sales only. Globally they sold well over 750,000 units and made large profits. Keep trying.

I have had mixed experience with Range Rover and BMW although Range Rover was generally very good and more mixed with BMW. Also we have friends that have had to schedule their visits weeks out for routine maintenance in order to get a loaner. Yea yea yea on the sales numbers... glad you are so happy about that. Hope you didn't short Tesla though. And yea I am a fan of theirs, don't own their stock or product yet but very impressed with what this American start up car company has achieved.

At least they were quick about repairing it and offered a Tesla loaner, rental car, or $100/day UBER credit.

Before the Model 3 they used to send a valet to pick up the car and drop off a loaner at the same time at your work or home, but I guess that is not very scaleable. Temporary issue since we'll have self-driving cars sooner than you think.
