General Motors' Chinese Sales Take A DIP For The SECOND Year In A Row — IF GM Loses China Is It Game Over, Again?

General Motors Co’s vehicle sales in China fell for a second year as overall auto sales declined amid a slowing economy and because of competition in the key mid-priced sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment.

Sales in 2019 fell 15% from a year earlier to 3.09 million vehicles, GM, China’s second-biggest foreign automaker, said in a statement. The company delivered 3.65 million vehicles in 2018 and 4.04 million units in 2017...

...GM is focused on bolstering its product lineup and improving cost efficiency, Matt Tsien, GM executive vice president and president of GM China, said in the statement.

There is no need anywhere in the world for Buick AND Cadillac. GM's culture of accounting first, product second is failing in the face of competent competition.

GM will never change until they bring some fresh blood in. The entire organization is so inbred with leadership that knows nothing but the "GM way". The cost engineering and design by committee process that has been going on for decades has to go away before GM can move forward.

What GM does have in China is Buick and Cadillac that are hallowed brands. Clearly Cadillac should move up market, as “American Luxury” and compete directly with MB/BMW/Audi with American styling and fabulous interiors that are as good or better, and not all “jet black crap”! Buick can be what is or slightly better,

Mfrs expect 26M sales in 2020 so GM should build “Cadillacs” and 1 step lower is Buick. Right now they’re both just slightly nicer Chevies...
