NHTSA Opens Investigation Into 14th Tesla Autopilot Crash

NHTSA said on Wednesday it was launching an investigation into the Dec. 29 crash of a Tesla Model 3 that left a passenger dead after the vehicle collided with a parked fire truck in Indiana.

The crash is the 14th involving Tesla that NHTSA's special crash investigation program has taken up in which it suspects the company's so-called Autopilot or other advanced driver assistance system was in use.

The Tesla Autocrash system loves parked fire trucks.

LIDAR could have prevented this completely, but Musk's head is too big to admit he made a massive mistake by refusing to incorporate LIDAR.

LIDAR is a crutch, solve for vision and you win the game.

If this was Takata "Autopilot" would be shut down in all cars or all cars would be grounded (pun intended).

Autopilot doesn't mean you don't have to pay attention... you still have to be looking at the road even if the car is doing the driving.

On Highway 101, they completely f-ed up the lane markings in a construction area and Autopilot becomes confused on lanes that are super badly drawn. You better believe I'm paying extra attention and my hands are on the wheel when going across this area.
