Merecedes-Benz Crowned World’s Bestselling Luxury-Car Brand For The Fourth Year In A Row

Mercedes-Benz successfully defended its crown as the world’s bestselling luxury-car brand, beating out arch-rivals BMW and Volkswagen Group’s Audi for the fourth year in a row.

The win emerged on Friday when BMW reported sales of its namesake branded vehicles rose 2 percent to a record 2.17 million cars last year. Daimler's Mercedes-Benz said Thursday its own sales increased 1.3 percent to 2.34 million vehicles. Audi lagged behind both.

This was based solely on sales numbers. Sales were strong for all the three German marques. The differential between MB and BMW was razor thin.

MB total sales were 2.17 million
BMW total sales were 2.34 million
Audi total sales were 1.85 million

Did you read the Article?, it say: "The win emerged on Friday when BMW reported sales of its namesake branded vehicles rose 2 percent to a record 2.17 million cars last year. Daimler's Mercedes-Benz said Thursday its own sales increased 1.3 percent to 2.34 million vehicles. Audi lagged behind both." Also a razor thin is 170,000 cars, specially y you pay atention to the fact that profit margin in MB cars is higher than those in BMWs, the edge is very significative.

Well said and I attribute Benz winning streak not only to China, the world’s largest auto market, but also Benz having arguably the most balanced and overall satisfying lineup from low end to high end. Every vehicle in their lineup usually presents the best overall package and is a best seller or second best in its respective segment.

When your entry level Car (A Class) and Flagship (S Class) dominate their respective categories, you know from a brand perspective you have something special

Pretty impressive for Benz for four straight years. 170K units is a pretty significant difference. The key for both Benz and BMW is that they are doing what made them good: catering to their core borrowers. Benz is focusing on luxury, while adding sport and BMW is focusing on sport while adding luxury. Audi is a bit confused at the moment and their execution shows it.
