How Long Until The NHTSA Issues A Recall On Tesla's Autopilot?
The evidence keeps stacking up against Tesla. As the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigates crash after crash involving Tesla vehicles under the influence (or suspected influence) of Autopilot, when is enough too much?

As we reported most recently, the NHTSA has racked up 14 investigations into Tesla vehicles that collided with other vehicles, including three over the past month. Most often, it seems the Teslas mistake large emergency vehicles for empty space and plow right into them. Through a combination of the company’s seemingly flawed Autopilot system and driver inattention, the death count keeps rising. It’s time for a recall of the whole damn thing.

lol the bloggers for this website are so frantic about Tesla

how about we order a recall on cell phones? They cause more accidents per minute than Autopilot does per month.

True, how many more deaths have there been from texting while driving than Autopilot. All the Autopilot deaths were also distracted drivers, same thing as texting or multitasking.

you don’t justify bad behavior by pointing to other bad behavior.

Driving while distracted by a cell phone is already illegal. Duh. Why not just ban cars and then there would never be an accident.

Back on topic, Per the Tesla owner's manual, "Traffic-Aware Cruise Control cannot detect all objects and may not brake/decelerate for stationary vehicles"

Translated from lawyer speak to regular English, "Autocrash will try to kill you from time to time, so don't trust it".

Time to idiot proof Teslas. Because of past human errors manufacturers must design your lawn mower to shut off if you let go of the handle, or get out of the seat on a rider, Tesla needs to design a shut off mechanism. Require hands on the steering wheel at all times?

It's already pretty close to that on the freeway, you need to tug the wheel every 20 seconds. Some people cheat it by using illegal weights on the wheel with magnets... you can't really stop people from doing stupid things like that.

I think they could use the internal camera to monitor people to make sure they are looking at the road and perhaps as a reward increase the wheel grabbing to every 60 seconds or so.

It's a temporary, transitional situation. The system has gotten better over time and will see greatly expanded capabilities this year. On HW3 it is already recognizing most lane markings, stop lights, stop signs, and their relative location (you don't just see there is a red light up ahead, you see all the lights for every lane). With 20x the processing power over HW2.5, think FSD without the driver paying attention will be possible. Fingers crossed, we'll all benefit (except for TSLA shortsellers).
