Boomers Be Gone, Millennials Are Taking Over To Push The Market Forward
Simply put, it's all but impossible to count the number of articles condemning Millennials for purported disinterest in cars or driving. As anyone who has actually bothered to ask the question would know, however, those born between the years of 1981 and 1996 are no less interested in America's favorite form of transport than their predecessors, and one study has concluded that Millennials' interest in driving rivals that of the Baby Boomer generation.

If that is the case it may be time to sell you automotive stocks. A generation that can't get a job, buy a house or start a family isn't one to bet on to drive automotive sales. The top 5% of that group Phd, MBA, Dr's, Lawyers, Achitechs, Engineers etc can't support an entire industry.

IMO - The 'smart-phone' movement has created a generation of 'dumb' young people.

Smart kids are still smart kids, but the middle block is really challenged in my observations.

For anyone in this forum who is at a managerial level..perhaps some of you who have a range of employees can comment on your observations about 20-somethings?

As a group, they are very likable but I have noticed that they seem less confident and less passionate that their predecessor groups. Some work really hard but some just won't (and they are eventually asked to leave). Our turnover is higher than it used to be and we pay well. Its concerning to me because I don't like firing people but its unavoidable sometimes.

Side Observation - a good portion of my young people enjoy driving and own a car, though this might not be typical.

Thoughts?

I manage a wide age distribution. If anything, these younger, "millenials" are smart, hard working and dedicated. That being said, they are impatient for advancement and will move on faster than previous generations.

Yup and this is why I wont bother hiring anyone (general laborer) under the age of 40 as they are all precious little snowflakes with no work ethic or desire. -Age discrimination YUP and I don't give a damn either. I also heavily favor fresh immigrants as Canadians I find are too lazy. Yes there are exceptions to the rule but very few sadly. My daughter on the other hand bucks this trend, skipped the family biz and opted for a "no money" military career in the US Army and is so untypically millennial so there is some hope and is a real gear head like me.

The oldest millennials are 39, youngest are 24. That is pretty much the prime working years to climb up the ladder and get into managerial and perhaps even executive roles, at least for tech companies. I've managed a large variety of ages and you can have top performers from any generation, that includes boomers and Gen Z. Heck, there are people getting their first full-time job out of college making well over $100k/year.

Milllennials are NOT "twentysomethings". That's your ignorance, Boomer. Gen Z--the generation AFTER millennials are roughly 20 at this point.

Millennials will be the cars that are frugal and probably buy low power, smallish size cars like the buyers in EU. Ugh!

@SuperCarEnthusiast You demonstrated ONLY your super ignorance by stating: "Millennials will be the cars that are frugal and probably buy low power, smallish size cars like the buyers in EU. Ugh!"

#1 Millennials love their crossovers, SUVs, and pickups.

#2 Millennials expect performance.

#3 The EU market it fuck over by tax-elevated fuel priced and Draconian social engineering by the socialists who demand worship on the altar of global warming oops climate change oops carbon footprint.

Millenials will drive EVs or golf carts if their mommy and daddy will buy them one.

Boomers and Gen X are roughly 60% of our demographic and Millennials and others the remaining 40% at the dealers in the group. Generation Z is not old enough yet to be a big demographic, but the oldest Gen Z people are roughly 20 so they are next.

Yes as a 35 yo I am still very interested in cars as my peers are and we are passionate. Most of us are still into regular ICE cars and performance and do not want too much autonomy nor electric cars yet though we are still interested in those later down the road.
