Is Genesis Intentionally Thinning The Ranks Of It's Dealerships?

Ever since the luxury wing of Hyundai was spun off into a separate brand in 2017, there were plans in place to ensure that only the top producing dealers would have the privilege of selling those new high line vehicles.

Genesis originally wanted a total of 100 dealers nationwide in affluent parts of the US to push these new highly spec'd, and aggressively priced automobiles onto American roads to get the right type of attention and pound it's proverbial chest.

Thinning? Aren't they having trouble setting up their dealer network?

Hyundai/Kia has RUINED the rollout of the Genesis brand.

The first Genesis was to be a Genesis-branded car in dealers, but the economic downturn meant that it suddenly became a Hyundai Genesis sold through Hyundai dealers.

The second Hyundai Genesis became the Genesis G80 and dealers got on board to build stand-alone Genesis dealers. Some bought land and some even broke ground. The Hyundai pulled the plug. Hyundai had to quietly settle lawsuits of people who had signed on for a franchise and then got it jerked away.

So now, they want to sell overpriced premium vehicles in Hyundai dealers but they really want stand alone dealers. The good dealers that stepped up, got burned.

Any momentum Genesis had, died 3-5 years ago.

How do people downvote Darringer giving an insiders view? I guess people prefer made up BS? Actually, nevermind, that's obviously true.

As for down votes, they think it hurts my feelings. It doesn't.

As for Genesis, Hyundai would be better off buying a brand (Jaguar, Maserati) and producing cars "under license" in SoKo. Translation: buy a name, rebadge Genesis products, and pretend that Jaguar or Maserati helped.

Jaguar and Maserati dealers would be thrilled to have modern, competent, high-quality products for once.

Hyundai could also be a good partner for Lincoln that could use a Town Car (G90) and a Continental (G80) for incremental sales. Reskin both with Lincoln styling and send them over.

A Jaguar, Maserati or Alfa built in SoKo would fail massively. The problem with Maserati and Alfa is not the product, it’s the Chrysler management and their $#!++y dealer network that doesn’t understand the product nor the customers. They are low rent mass market stores that have no business being in the upscale segment.

When they tell you there’s no difference between selling a Maserati and a Chrysler, that’s the first sign they’re clueless and the reason that Maserati/Alfa are in the shape they are today.

Maserati and Alfa are the shape they are in due to substandard designs. The G708090 are not substandard.

If German cars can be built all over the planet and remain German, then Maseratis can be built in SoKo.

The exact mindset that thinks Olive Garden is Italian food. This is why Maserati/Alfa sales are failing, a complete lack of understandIng of the cars and its customers. they need to appoint only dealers that understand they are not selling appliances, they are selling a lifestyle and treat the customers accordingly.

No. Maserati and Alfa-Romeo are failing because their designs are substandard and in the case of Alfa-Romeo of dismal build quality and putrid reliability. The Genesis cars are up-to-date and of excellent quality and reliability.

There are two issues with Genesis brand
First they should had never called the brand "Genesis " Because the car" Genesis" was in the Hyundai line up, people think of "Hyundai" everytime they see Genesis. That was stupid they should had came up with a completely different name.

2nd Genesis designs. They just look like ordinary boring designs. The wings Under Genesis (Hyundai and Kia) look way better.
Why on earth would people buy a non head turning GV80 with mo style when the Telluride and Paliside look way better and should be less expensive.

Genesis just look like ordinary looking cars. There is no thought into their designs. The Genesis SUVs were rushed amd didnt really take their time designing the SUVs because they didnt have any to begin with. When Telluride was in R&D they took their time because Kia already had SUVs.

I disagree the designs are boring. The interiors are well executed and the G70 in particular is good looking.
I do think KHG buying Jaguar makes perfect sense. Jaguar is falling well behind and Tata is reportedly looking for a buyer.
I for one, find MD's insights spot on. I believe he was one of the first to call for GM to resurrect Hummer as an EV. And apparently Mary Barra read his posts.
His politics, well, we"ll agree to disagree:)

As for politics, your side is running a woman who pretended to be native American for financial gain, a sex-offender with his hands all over people, a jew that wants jews to die, and a guy who thinks taking it up the ass is the best qualification for President. And maybe it is given how hard the Demoncrats (sic) have tried to penetrate and rape Trump. :)

I take huge issue with Warren saying she will eliminate student debt. As someone who put 4 kids through private colleges (3 masters) without anyone taking a student loan, I resent the proposed forcing of the debt.
As for "sex offender" I will assume you are referring to Biden. Which, compared to trump's "grabbing them by the pu**y" and bragging about walking in on teen pageant dressing rooms seems quaint.

And trump's trade deal with China gives them a big win. It is far weaker than the TPP he stupidly walked away from. This fool could not negotiate his way out of a wet paper bag.
No wonder he ignores the constitution. He likely does not understand it.

well, it's a sad reality when the G70 is being outsold handily by the older and less powerful TLX.
