HOW And With WHAT Should Lexus And The Rest ANSWER The Genesis GV80, KIA Telluride And Hyundai Palisade?
If you haven't already noticed in the last year three new faces have appeared (Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade and Genesis GV80) and they are ALREADY giving the auto world a migraine.

The GV80 hasn't reached dealerships but just watch this video and you KNOW this is going to rock the likes of Lexus, Cadillac, BMW, MB, Audi, Porsche and others...

The one thing we DO know is if these competitors don't ACT, and QUICKLY, it may end up getting REAL ugly, REAL fast.

The car business is a fickle beast...you could be on top for 25 years and then next minute you're wondering WTF happened. Think we're kidding? Just look at the car that could NEVER be beat. The BMW 3-Series. WHATEVER happened to that? Talk about going out of fashion FASTER than you can say Ricky Gervais! Now the only '3' that matters is the Tesla MODEL 3.

So the question we pose to you, the TRUE experts is....WTF should Lexus and the others DO to answer these game changing models which seem to have come out of nowhere that could fundamentally change their whole models???

Spies discuss...

Relative to the Telluride and Palisade, the Explorer and Highlander are major stumbles that need immediate restyling and re-aiming.

The GV80 is a complete disaster.

That said, Lexus needs to kill the RXL, GX, and LX and replace all three with a modern "X7".

I don't think Toyota or Lexus are worried about Hyundai.

I agree

In the Prestige Department - Kia and Hyundai have negative scores - and Genesis is simply not known by enough people to compete in the near Luxury category - much less the Actual Luxury category that even Lexus Fails to compete well in.

THe fact of today's market means that High Luxury Sedans don't sell in numbers around the world with the exception of the S class (No - I do not consider Tesla to be IN that category - especially the 3 - which really competes with the Toyota Corolla). The only way Genesis sells is with a bank load of money on the hood.

Lexus sells as the reliability leader which reputation for that is well earned and for the older more affluent driver -they put more emphasis on that than the newest Bells and Whistles - but in fact - most Lexus cars really do not compete in the HIgh End Luxury Market - they are more Badge Engineered Toyotas.

THe current problems with the market are not going to go away easily or soon. Many buyers are confused over the EV question - but the biggest problem that remains is the the Average American cannot afford the Average car sold in the USA - and the EVs problem is that they are MORE expensive than that. Ev's and Hybrids - with all their hype - still sell around 5% of the market - Hybrids especially have stopped selling nor were they really enjoyable drives to begin with. ANd infrastructure will limit true EV sales for at least another Decade or two.

THe Hyundai stable simply does not have the reputation for quality and prestige (WHether it is true is meaningless) - and there are only so many people who are willing to buy them at premium prices. I certainly would not - the local dealers' reputations are horrendous. In fact - the local Kia Dealer in my area is currently closed - and has changed hands 5 times in the last 3 years.

Apparently Lexus needs to add more leather quilting, in a wall-paper like fashion, to the interior of their SUV's to compete with the GV80.

Moreover mixing brown and black is a fashion "don't" that they need to adopt apparently.

Lexus doesn’t really need to chase the Germans and much less Genesis. Lexus has shown the ability to do very well in the luxury crossover market l...when they decide to release a proper sized 7 seat crossover it will outsell the GLS, X7 and GV80 combined almost overnight. The GX and LX will probably stick around because they are based on models sold overseas so engineering costs are minimal and gives them some higher priced models to sell.

When will Lexus add a proper 7 seat crossover?
Will they beat the Jeep Wagoneer? The market has been there for years, yet Lexus keeps updating, for lack of a better word, the truly ancient GX and LX, which are just badge engineered Toyotas.

The folks that need to respond to Telluride/Palisade:
Honda - the Pilot needs a better design, but it is a good solid product
Ford - the Explorer brings nothing fresh to the game and both inside and out looks stale despite it being "new" this year
GM - same as Ford

Sales numbers have proven that this duo hasn't impacted premium SUV sales much at all.

I think the GV80, along with the Aviator, are going to bring a whole new level of luxury to the mid-size SUV class. In a sense, American luxury. So, it will be interesting to see how this resonates with the buying public. The dominant players (RX, GLE, X5, Q7) in this segment haven't oozed the level of luxury that these two players promise so they could either change the landscape, or be left squandering. Unfortunately, other players like the XC90 and XT6 might become also-rans.

The GV80 is going to be a cataclysmic failure.

The explorer is a big shame...Ford took the time and effort to bring a luxury class Longitudinal/Rear drive platform with good motors but then went cheap on the interior. The explorer with a nicer interior could do very well.

They styling is way off as well. Customers wanted new styling and people who are coming off Explorer leases are not liking that the new one looks like a carbon copy of the old one. And let's face it, the old one was no beauty.
