A high-speed collision in south Florida this week involving a Nissan GT-R and a Tesla Model X ended with the electric SUV dramatically split in half and four people injured. I guess so long as the "passenger cell" does not include anyone using the 3rd row. In the past this space in a SUV or minivan was for luggage/storage and was the crumple zone for the 5 main passengers. Although I never had kids I would never allow anyone to occupy these seats.
