Autobahn No More? Biggest Opponent To Speed Limits In Germany Changes Stance
Germany's biggest car club said Friday it is shifting its position on the introduction of a general speed limit on the Autobahn to “neutral.”

The ADAC, which counts about one in four Germans among its members, said it would refrain from making any recommendations “until further notice” amid growing demands for Germany to pull level with neighboring countries that restrict speeds on their highways.

Currently, about 70% of Germany's highway network has no speed limit.

….and driving in Germany is the safest of all other countries in Europe.
These idiots can't use the safety as their reason.
Are they listening to the garbage spewed by the handlers of Greta Thunberg? (she is just a mouthpiece programmed to repeat what they teach her)

Autobahn No speed limit associate with being free and above yourself. In a country that has so many restrictions being on Autobahn is positive balancing factor. Take away major freedom expression like that and see how it will link indirectly to more depressed society with negative consequences.

Europeans just can't get very far from fascist ideology. It's like gravity that draws them back to it.

Reading this really short and fairly uninformative article it looks like the main backers are road safety advocates and the police. However this has been going on for years and years in Germany. I remember these same discussions back in the 80s. There are a number of other recent articles on this subject out there from 2019 when they had a vote on this subject. Based on the last vote on this in late 2019, Germany is not going to do away with unrestricted speed limits anytime soon. That last vote in the Bundestag was 498-126 to keep the autobahn unrestricted. I will say it has gotten pretty amazing the differences in speed between the first time I began driving on the autobahn in 1982 and today. There were very few cars going above 140kph back then. Mostly 911s and a few BMWs and Mercedes. Today even the slowest cars can easily go 140kph and will typically cruise at 160+kph while 911s and mid range sedans and SUVs from BMW Merc Audi VW Skoda etc... easily cruise at 200+kph. Of course over there it is much more difficult to get a drivers license than here in the States so they friggin drive 10X better than the average driver in the US. Great road manners, keep to the right except when passing, right of way at intersections, zipper style merging, basic unusual attitude handling etc...
