Cadillac Adds Automated Lane Changing To Super Cruise Driver Assist

Cadillac Adds Automated Lane Changing To Super Cruise Driver Assist
Cadillac is adding automated lane changing to its Super Cruise driver-assist system when it expands the technology to three more nameplates later this year.

It will be available on the 2021 CT4, CT5 and Escalade. Cadillac plans to reveal the redesigned 2021 Escalade in Los Angeles next week.

The feature allows Super Cruise to change lanes on highways within its network when requested by the driver, as long as certain conditions are met.

This would be the first non-Tesla car that can do this. Congrats, just took 5 years to catch up to this feature.

The Mercedes E a Class has had the feature for a few years now but that’s expected of the worlds best selling luxury brand and the brand Elon trusts to make switch gear for the model S & X in addition to the life line they threw Tesla at the start to save them from financial ruin.

But congrats Caddy and I’m looking forward to the sprinter based commercial EV vans to come from Tesla soon!

The Tesla version slams you into stationary trucks and concrete abutments.

So far there hasn't been one reported accident from the Tesla lane changes and they have been done millions of times. I love this feature, it changes lanes smoother and safer than I can and since about December, the changes are now instant the second you hit the blinker.

I had no idea MB tried to deploy this. Unfortunately you have to wait 2 seconds which makes it very impractical to use in any sort of traffic and it appears to suck in general based on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kBwB1C5PSA

I also just realized this feature may not come to existing Super Cruise cars, only those that are being released LATER this year. Tesla is still way ahead of the competition here.

I think MB is also more strategic in their approach, rather than rushing technology they’ve had readily available with their “intelligent drive” program as seen on their autonomous S Class models, they’d rather wait until the market/general public is more comfortable and the demand is there.

Unfortunately Tesla had to take a big PR hit for the last few years with the multiple incidents/fatal accidents occurring in their vehicles, while you’ve seen nothing of the sort from Mercedes who has had radar guided cruise control since the late 90’s

While I’m happy to see Tesla continue to test the technology and allow its owners to join in that safety, I gotta say there’s some level of reassurance/corporate responsibility that I appreciate when climbing behind my Benz knowing the tech used is fully baked and research miles have already been logged by their R&D team

MB is not exactly an early adopter brand, so fair comment. Do you have the lane change feature on your Benz and if so do you use it? I don't see how it's usable with a 2 second delay. Autopilot lane changes are exceptional and I'm glad I've had access to them for the past two years.

Very usable and actually more natural feeling, rather than farting in the lane, it moves over like a considerate driver naturally would in traffic, like I said I feel Benz has managed the roll out of the technology much better than Tesla hence why it hasn’t been a PR nightmare for them in the past.

Until the demand, safety, and comfort level of the general population catches up, Benz will continue to introduce the tech in phases and make sure its drivers understand they have to pay attention while engaged so they don’t wake up and find themselves under a semi truck, fire engine, or construction vehicle that has unfortunately happened in fatal incidents with Tesla

GM via Cadillac should make all this technology standard. They need to give customers more as they are failing in nearly everything they are currently doing. The Escalade "could and should" have been more than a Burb w/a different front/rear and dashboard... pathetic company run by idiots...

Nobody needs this feature. Just like no one needs a glass cockpit that will eventually die and then what? $5K-$10k to replace?

I use the auto lane change feature dozens of times a day, it even works well off-highway.
