Ford SETTLES Class-Action Lawsuit With About 2 MILLION Fiesta And Focus Owners Over BAD Dual-Clutch Transmissions

Ford Motor Co. has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit with nearly 2 million owners and former owners of Focus and Fiesta vehicles with bad dual-clutch transmissions known as the DPS6, according to court documents filed late Friday.

A lawyer who helped broker the deal on behalf of consumers said the Ford payout could exceed $100 million.

"There's no cap. The truth is, Ford is going to have to pay out claims until they're exhausted," said Tarek Zohdy of Capstone Law in Los Angeles. "In my opinion, Ford will have to deal with these vehicles until people are done filing their claims..."

THe problem is - a certain number of the problems of this Dual Clutch Transmission is because it is a Dry rather than wet clutch design - and there really is not a solution to that yet evolved. THe coefficient of friction is not consistent in this case. Therefore - the ROUGH shifting features of this trans are not going to change much - and the best they can do is keep it together while an owner has it. But it will forever reduce the value of the cars BADLY. THey are not going to wholesale replace 2 million transmissions with another design. They don't have the trans to begin with.

THat Ford is planning to get rid of cars may be partly because of this.

The PowerShit has been a nightmare for dealers. Ford put dealers in a bind where dealers had to cover repairs when Ford wouldn't because the dealer took care of the customer.

Ford replaced the PowerShit with the excellent 8 speed found in the new Escape.

The fact that so many bought the car is what concerns me...Ford didn’t anticipate the fiesta to be such a party pooper costing them dearly

The Fiesta and Focus were hastily converted for US duty from their European designs. Europeans put up with abysmal quality if the interior is pretty. Ford needed Hail Mary cars and went for it. OOPS!
