OK, So NOW WHAT? Rivian Is Building An EV Lincoln SUV — Should It Go After The G-Wagon OR Follow The Navigator?
As I wrote about this weekend, Rivian's CEO, RJ Scaringe, confirmed that it is currently working with Ford on the creation of a fully electric sport-utility vehicle that's luxurious. That would translate into a Lincoln.

Turns out that it was officially confirmed from Lincoln today.

This is HUGE news. Mostly because Lincoln is doing SO much at the moment. If the Navigator, Aviator and Corsair are indicators, this brand may have a bright future. Given the forecasted capabilities of the Rivian R1S and R1T, we're pretty jacked up about an EV Lincoln SUV.

There's just one important question: Should it go after the adventure seekers that cling to their Mercedes-Benz G-Wagons, or should it follow in the footsteps of its Navigator, which is adored by suburban families shuttling their kids to/from school and activities?

What say you, Spies?

Go after the volume. Crossover market.

I think go big to establish Lincoln as a true high end brand. Go cool, edgy, and expensive.

They need to shore up the middle first.

Don't mess with success. Follow the Navigator.

So Ford has developed the Mach-E, but doesn't want to make a luxe version out of it? Something doesn't add up.

They are doing a vehicle based on the Mach-E.

This is something entirely different and, obviously, bigger.

They also have an electric F150 in the works. Why outsource the platform for a new Lincoln when they are already doing electrification ?

The G Class represents a tiny niche, so that would make sense given the niche nature of EVs still....

BUT Lincoln needs volume. I've said elsewhere they should do a Town Car i.e. a four-place crossover with commodious rear seats in addition to commodious front seats with full attention given to luxury and convenience. This vehicle should be placed between the Aviator and Navigator.

Why the hell is nobody doing a EV Van as that is the most applicable platform and virgin market niche? So many delivery vans used and this could be a huge seller. A purpose built, all EV city van could be easy to make with a one box design and shouldn't take too long to bring to market???

Given that EV's cost double their ICE counterpart is the issue.

A Model 3 is routinely $60K and the comparable CamCord/FusNata would be $30K.

A startup called Arrival is trying to do it. Nissan and Renault have had small vans, the e-NV200 and the Kango ZE for a while now. There have also been a few Transit Connect conversions throughout the years. Very little of that has penetrated the NA market so far.

Rivian is doing Amazon vans.

Pretty sure Daimler is working on EV vans as well.
