CAR WARS! High-performance, Luxury SUV Edition — Porsche Macan Turbo vs. Range Rover Velar SV
If you're in market for a mid size luxury sport-utility vehicle, you certainly have your pick. There's a ton of options right now. It's just a matter of really breaking down what you NEED versus what you WANT.

And, if you want more performance, well, you're in for a good bit of fun. That's because there's a few really amazing products.

Two picks of the litter are the Porsche Macan Turbo and the Land Rover Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography — yikes, a mouthful.

But, as usual, we want to know: WHICH high-performance, luxury SUV is the best? The fine folks over at Autocar decided to put them back-to-back in the name of science. Kidding.

See how it shakes out below, Spies, and let us know which one you'd rather have in your garage!

Not sure anyone would cross shop a Macan and a Velar. The Macan is very small. The Velar is very slick and would appeal to a narrow customer profile. IE people who don't own jeans and would never consider getting dirty. Likely own a cat vs a dog too.

I think buyers would actually cross shop both.

When they realize that the Macan's cabin is rather tight, they either 1) Learn to deal; 2) Get into a Cayenne; or, 3) Go for something else.

You better be a rich and corrupt as Hunter Biden to afford these SUV gems.

I'd compare the Cayenne GTS to the Velar SV. Porsche is better performer and more reliable. RR is better looking and more posh. I'll take the Porsche.

The only reason to consider the Velour would be if you are hellbent on spending a lot of money only to get a vehicle that is perpetually in the shop for something.

Velor might be the worst vehicle name since the Vigor.

Worse than Tiguan, Lavida, Taigun, TRoc, Sagitar, Lamando, Phideon, Arteon, Touareg, or Terramont?

Admittedly many of those are also terrible, but I still think Vigor is the undefeated champion of name suck.

lol

One of my benefactors was part owner in an Acura franchise and he said that Vigor was the model that destroyed Acura's premium momentum. He said that you could tell that it was a crudely lengthened Accord, but the wheelbase increase was so that they could incorporate the Vigor's dumb longitudinal engine. When the Vigor failed Acura attributed it to name and the great Integra and Legend went poof and the truly horrible RL showed up.

The recent RLX made the same mistake as the Vigor given that it was a crudely lengthened Accord and if you put a previous-generation Accord and the RLX side by side, the RLX suddenly looks like a shoddy body shop fix as you can see all the Accord and the crude lengthening.

The TLX needs to be sold as the Legend. The ILX needs to get the Integra name. The latter needs to skew toward performance.

The 3G TL was an Accord, right? But it did wonders in sales and for the brand. I still see tons of them running around and looking almost new.

The Vigor/TL/TLX are all Accords. The recent RLX was a very crappy SuperAccord effort that looked horrible. Lincoln's Super Fusion was far better realized.

Despite its reliability concerns, I love the Velar. The Porsche, while nice, no longer stands out. The Panamera Turismo looks better. The Velar at least goes against the typical theme of SUV designs today, which is why LR/RR in general tend to stand out.
