It's 2020, Where Are All Of These Self Driving Cars We Were Promised?

When it comes to self-driving cars, the future was supposed to be now.

In 2020, you’ll be a “permanent backseat driver,” the Guardian predicted in 2015. “10 million self-driving cars will be on the road by 2020,” blared a Business Insider headline from 2016. Those declarations were accompanied by announcements from General Motors, Google’s Waymo, Toyota, and Honda that they’d be making self-driving cars by 2020. I’m sure I’m the minority of the broader population (autopsies aside), but I like driving.

They are all standing line waiting for the Car Charging Stations that we were all promised would be built

THere is no real Demand for self driving cars that I have seen. If you are looking for one - I suggest a bus.

The demand will be unprecedented once people have a chance to experience it. Uber/Lyft at half cost? Yes please. As for the charging stations, I see new ones going up everywhere. Heck I'm in Sacramento right now, and accidentally came across a free charger in a parking structure that wasn't registered to any system. It was just there for anyone to plug in as needed. Right outside is a brand new Electrify America 8-stall DC fast charge stations (Supercharger that all newer EVs can use like the Taycan). I am honestly not seeing many Teslas or EVs here, but the infrastructure is certainly going up. Coming soon to your neighborhood too Tom.
