BMW Dealers Clamour: We Want Wagons To Compete With Audi

BMW had a decent 2019, besting historic rival Mercedes-Benz with 324,826 U.S. deliveries — a 4.4-percent improvement over the previous year. The brand expects more good news in 2020 as new product begins to hit its stride and more models start arriving. While the company currently enjoys an almost even sales breakdown between cars and crossovers, BMW National Dealer Forum Chairman Patrick Womack said its Westernmost offerings could be further refined.

U.S. dealers want a sumptuous German wagon to compete with European marques already providing one.

Of late BMW has completely missed the boat on wagons in this country.

In the last 3 series it was positioned in a non-existent market niche: An upmarket performance RWD wagon.

Just bring back the regular old 3 and 5 X-drive versions priced a tick higher than the sedan and they'll sell well.

I sincerely hope wagons make a comeback in the states, I’ve always kept an E class wagon in the stable which is the Swiss Army knife for ppl/luggage/supplies hauling while compromising little to none of a sedan’s driving dynamics

Unique spelling aside...

Wagons for German premiums are not massive volume.

If chasing incremental volume is the best that BMW dealers can do, then BMW is in deep caca.

Audi wagons (Avant) and their sport-backs are awesome.

I've think I have seen this movie before. We clamor for something that we will never buy. I have to say though that BMW in offering the wagons with the smaller engines and normally no stick missed opportunities in the past to make wagons relevant at least to enthusiasts.

Wagons are cool. AWD featured models even better. It would not kill BMW to bring in a 3 and a 5 series wagon and maybe kill some Grand Coupes while they are at it. Coupe SUV's can go too.
