If people put their hard earned money down on an Aztek or the Hummer H2, there will be buyers for this wedge of a pickup truck. Like Burning Man and other fringe festivals, they get a great crowd, but most people don't know anyone who went. Offerings like this are the same.

This preorder thing was actually a smart move by Elon to drive up share prices. He set it intentionally low at $100 so many people jumped in for FOMO. Now he can walk around saying he has 500,000 preorders, the vast majority of whom will not actually buy the car.

IF true, mission accomplished, another stay relevant / stock hyping PR stunt. And paid by 500k fanboys.

Gotta give Elon Musk the credit.

I wonder what's next flying cars? Or did he say already?

Very sad. Obviously given the deposit was so cheap, not surprising many people jumped on this... Rivian on the other hand has a much better looking SUV and truck and they don't need to garner popularity to drive share prices. I am looking at that one and already put a deposit down for the R1S. I won't be absent minded to get one of these ugly POS for the sake of proving a point and being a "tesla" fanboy and no knowledge of cars before this.

The Rivian will go nicely on the side of my RS7.

It's going to be a status symbol, wait for it. The design is the best branding move Tesla could have ever done for this truck.
