Here's an idea. Make everyone drive their car 100% of the time.

And what if that reduced safety significantly?

Neither YOU nor I drive our cars 100% of the time - or even 100% of the time when the car is moving.

More appropriate would be require them to have the hands on the wheel when the car is moving.

I usually keep my hands on the wheel the whole time with Autopilot on, but it is annoying that even then you have to tug it every 30 seconds at freeway speeds if you're not applying pressure left or right. I wish they put pressure sensors on the wheel itself, but then it would probably be easy to game.

It's a temporary issue until Autopilot becomes way more capable than a human driver. Looking forward to the next batch of updates that will hopefully enable stopsigns and stoplights asap.

I'm driving a vehicle with active cruise control at the moment and it is amazingly accurate in its reactions. It can see down the road and react, which is freaky and can come to a dead stop and resume without me doing anything. In stop and go traffic, it's flawless, but I'm nervous the entire time because I'm used to driving myself in that situation. I'm all for technology that assists me and I'm learning to be less nervous about this particular application of technology, but hands off the wheel is something I just cannot do.
