Should Toyota Bring Back The FJ Cruiser?

The FJ Cruiser was designed as a tribute to the classic FJ Land Cruisers. The machine debuted in the US in 2003; however, sales plummeted during the great recession and economic crisis of 2008, causing Toyota to disband the production of this vehicle entirely.

However, since abandoning the production, Toyota has witnessed a surge in the popularity and demand of the vehicle. Users have their own reasons for giving this classic a try, as the vehicle has become a cult by now with various automobile bloggers encouraging the purchase of the car.

They couldn't give them away even with steep discounts. They finally cleared the lots of leftover models that languished for more than a year after it was discontinued by putting up to $20K on the hoods (locally and elsewhere). And even then sales were tough.

Just bring the Land Cruiser 70 to the North American market. This is the OG and a really basic SUV. It will find a market easily.

I did not care for it, myself but ...... Resale on clean preowned is sky high. Check out CC comment. He is right on target. Toyota sells some interesting trucks in Australia.

Toyota Land Crappers have high resale value but they are not desirable to live with. The FJ was a wannabe Land Crapper but off road it was bitch slapped by the Wrangler.

I loved the look of this distinctive Ute but never drove one so I can't comment on the road manners but a refresh would be money in the bank.

It would need to lose to stupid door arrangement and it would also need to be lot better on MPG. These were heart-stopping gas guzzlers.

Toyota needs to make Land Cruiser a brand and then produce new platforms. The Land Cruiser platforms are ANCIENT.

Resale prices on the FJ Cruisers are absurdly high matching or exceeding new retail price for FJ's with serious mileage. Wonder if they are actually selling at such inflated prices?

Land Crapper enthusiasts are like Subaru fanatics. They are blind to all the detriments and will pay big money for substandard vehicles. Old Land Cruisers bring big money but they are vile to drive to the point of being unsafe at any speed. The irony is that the FJ was rejected by the Land Cruiser crazies when it was out and now they are grabbing them up.

As a former owner of three Land Cruisers (FJ60, FJ62 & FZJ70) I once went to test drive the FJ Cruiser and rejected it. Very bad visibility, stupid door arrangement and ridiculous three windshield wiper configuration. I bought an X-terra which has been very reliable at 170,000 miles still with the original clutch.
Toyota should bring the 70 series as the only Land Cruiser (for ancient SUV lovers), move the 4Runner into a unibody longitudinal engine RWD/AWD platform and keep the LX as their flagship gigantic luxury SUV.
