Like Squeezing An American Into A Subcompact Car - SUVs And Pickups No Longer Fit In The Garage

If you are too big to sit behind the wheel (and you used to fit) that's on you. But the size of Pickup trucks is insane these days. SUV's based on them are equally huge. Is it really necessary?

They barely fit in parking spaces.

Pickups are GIGANTIC.

Suvs and trucks are getting bigger but the penny pinching building are shrinking the garage length.

So true. The house down at the desert required some design changes to the garage. We widened and lengthened the footprint and raised the ceiling. The Escalade will now fit.

Big on the outside, but many are not impressive with interior space.

I know that most of you are too young to remember this - but back in the 50's - the cars with the big fins started to get REALLY REALLY long (THe Chrysler Imperial was huge) - and this same thing happened - the Garage could fit the LONG cars anymore. I had a garage where we added a Foot to the Front and moved the door forward to get the cars in. However - some could not just do that as the garages might have been wide enough - or maybe not.

Since most Home garages back then were stand alone - that was the time when the METAL garage took off - they tore down the old garage and put up a metal one in the same week - this happened all over the country. But if you looked at a lot of these LONG cars - their back seats were still marginal for adults - although you could fit 10 Dead Bodies and their Luggage into some of the Trunks.

Most cars -not SUV's- have had significant increases in their wheelbase making them quite large. I was recently surprised when the wife wanted something smaller than her current SAV...most cars are even larger.
