Tesla's Elon Musk Offers A HOT TAKE On Coronavirus — Is He On Point Or WAY Off Base?
At this point it virtually does not matter where you're located. The coronavirus is making an impact.

Obviously, the hardest hit country is China. Following in its footsteps, however, are South Korea and Italy. And now it's starting to get its hooks in here in the US.

In the New York Tri-state area, folks have been sent into high alert, essentially. Some supermarkets and grocery stores have barren shelves. Looking for toilet paper? Need hand soap? Good luck finding it.

Major events, across the globe, have been cancelled. That includes the Geneva Motor Show, Baselworld and SXSW among many others.

For automakers, especially those dependent on China-based sales, it's been especially tough. Just look at shares of Ford and Tesla.

Ford ended the week at $6.49/share. Essentially, the equity price has cratered.

Tesla ended the week at $703.48/share. This is quite far off from its 52-week high of $968.99.

In one tweet, Tesla's Elon Musk shared his sentiment on the issue. See below.

Do you AGREE or DISAGREE with Musk?

A lot of the panic buying and hoarding of supplies is dumb; however proper hand washing and avoiding large gatherings is a good idea. This virus transmits twice as easily as the Flu and is 7 times as deadly as the Flu so some caution is not a bad thing.

Since I live near Seattle, I'm in the crosshairs in the US for the highest risk area. And I Agree with Elon. Yes, it's a big deal. But every winter the flu kills many people. Unless you knowingly are around infected persons, or travel to the high risk (non-US) areas, your odds of contracting this virus is quite small. And unless you have prior health issues, or have some other unknown problem, most people have recovered from this without long term problems. And at my age, I'm also in the higher risk group. I have a trip to DC scheduled in two weeks, and unless the FAA postpones the evaluation I'm not in the least concerned about going.

The media is purposely tanking the economy to combat Trump’s re-election.

Hmm, I might actually believe this conspiracy theory. It seems like the out-of-proportion panic could be hiding something else that is going on.

Also, the death rate percentage are likely much lower as they are not testing everyone for the virus. I think many more people have it than what the stats are saying and in younger people the symptoms could be very mild and similar to a normal cold/flu.

And the fact that is on the news in just about every country every day doesn't make you pause and think? Not everything is about Trump. The stock market tanked because people in China are staying home and not buying stuff. Trades are based on data, not opinions. Traders are like chickens, easily scared. DOW goes down then way up and then down. Crazy and senseless.

If you don't like it watch a movie and stop watching the news.

Of course PT Barnum would say such a thing as his biggest market has got to be Hong Kong and China where his sales and 1 of his factories is located and multiple supply chains are idled. This SARS 2.0 epidemic is costing me large with my vendors

The media is doing what it did for California Fires, Ebola, Branch Davidian standoff, Australia Fires, ETC. Following a story just like they likely did in 1952 and 1968 when there was a nasty flu that killed a lot of people world wide. They can't look away. It has zero to do with who is in the White House.

If you are old and have respiratory issues or are a baby with them, you might get unlucky if you catch this and die. Just like the regular flu could kill you. Everyone else can likely relax and wash your hands a bit more often.

Not a socialist. Not an idiot science-denier either. it's called a pandemic. it's not a media-creation you frickin' uneducated tool.

People who know the meaning of "pandemic" know that it just an issue happening in more than one country. It is not the apocalypse.

And Felicia, I guarantee that I am far more educated than you are so stop your "saber" whirling.

"Science denier" (no hyphen is needed) is a bullying phrase the Alt-Left bigots use whenever truth comes their way.

And Carlos, you most decidedly are a socialist. Your posts here reflect that abundantly.

You're flailing Felicia. You need to learn that you can't run with the big boys. the reason you can't win in a debate with me is because you come at it from an emotional point of view and highly emotional people are easy to topple because thinking is what they have abandoned.

The majority of the deaths here in WA are all at the one single life care facility. These people are all elderly, with some sort of health issues. Take this one facility out of the numbers and the death rate in the US is extremely small. This particular strain appears to be easily transmitted between people, but following the usual recommendations for flu season makes it extremely unlikely you'll "catch" it from someone. The early cases for healthcare providers is simply because they weren't aware now this particular strain works.

atc98092atc98092 - 3/8/2020 5:09:55 PM

I can't say why the facility didn't handle it per the normal flu protocol. I agree they should have, but for whatever reason it wasn't handled correctly. Too little staffing, shoddy operation, or simply the lack of considering it a serious event, I don't know. But take this one location out of the numbers and the overall death rate is really insignificant. The "normal" winter flu would typically kill just as many.

God, you're either politically stupid, just a hateful Alt-Left troll or both.

One would assume that politicians will do what is necessary in an election year to keep votes flowing.

It is also disingenuous of you to act like SOLELY the Republicans voted yes. Your Alt-Left spank buddies also went for it.
