Want To See WHICH Co.'s And Cars Are Being CONQUESTED By Tesla? Look NO Further...
Depending on who you ask, everyone has a different belief about Tesla. It's a bit all over the map.

Some folks stick to their guns by saying "It's not a luxury brand.'

Others exclaim that the EV manufacturer isn't conquesting sales from the likes of German automakers.

And others just simply downright hate Elon Musk's creation. There's no genuine justification.

That's all fine and well, however, at the end of the day all of the above is plain 'ol wrong. If you want some anecdotal proof, well, then I've got it for you.

On Saturday I took one of my beloved family members car shopping. Although they currently have a new X5, which is complemented by a 330i that's due for its lease return in May, Tesla has been looming in their mind. As they said, "I think I want to try something different."

They've been a BMW owner for multiple generations now.

Upon parking my M340i press vehicle for the week I noticed something pretty funny. The lineup of vehicles parked in the customer spaces was varied.

You had a Porsche Cayman, our M340i, a Chevrolet Sonic, an Audi A3 convertible, an Infiniti QX60 and a Subaru Crosstrek.

What does THAT tell you, Spies?

Crude oil prices this evening have dropped to a remarkably low $29 a barrel.
In late January, the price was at $62.

Tells me all ICE drivers are curious about EVs and Tesla is the brand most familiar with based on high level of media coverage...must all be readers of this site!

And yet - with a few exceptions - Few people from this site have actually expressed an interest in buying an EV - much less one of that Brand.

Reviews have shown that THat brand cannot compete with true prestige Luxury Brands on fit and finish. THe Model S is being allowed to continue unchanged and Their SUV type vehicle is at best - a compromise (Especially those doors)

By the time that EVs really indicate how much of a market exists for them without major Government tax benefits - the current models of that brand will have run their course - and will be competing with newer cars from other Brands - that will be in a lot more price ranges than that brand does compete in (Remember - even that Brands CEO has said that they cannot yet make money selling the base lowest priced model they currently sell. )

Now with a Drop in the price of fUEL - of epic proportions - along with economic uncertainty - a possibility of a world wide recession - the money to address the Infrastructure problems of EVs is Drying up. As interest rates settle at historic Lows - it becomes less profitable to actually loan money - and with a rising Pandemic that we have no real knowledge of where it will go and how badly - Expect car sales to Tank.

While this isn't a site that attracts more typical EV owners (just look at the comments from so many of the regulars here), there certainly are a number of us who are interested in EVs. I only dipped my toe in the water, moving to a PHEV as I did. But when my lease is up I'm going full EV. Even with the limited EV experience I get with my Niro (lack of power, need the ICE for heat, limited EV range), it's still a very enjoyable experience and I like it. And I'm someone who has owned muscle/performance cars since the early '70s.

But will I go with a Tesla? That I can't say. I'm not a fan of the minimalist interior, though the exterior styling has grown on me. But I've never actually sat in and driven any model Tesla, other than a quick look in one of their mall locations. I'm much more inclined to go with the VW ID.4, or perhaps the Fisker Ocean. Since my lease isn't up until May 2022, I have plenty of time, and there will be many choices available by then.

Actually - if you could look at the previous posts - You would see that I drove two Different Hybrids - and all my companies rep cars are Hybrids. The first - A Ford Fusion - and the second a far superior Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid.(Now discontinued)

However - as I pointed out - what you got was great Fuel Economy -but they turned the cars into uninteresting transportation appliances - with little oomph. I would never choose either of them as my regular driver.

They are getting conquest sales from all over the place. The German compact executive sedans have been the hardest hit from many reports. Time will tell if the SUVs will Be affected. The oil prices is a temporary thing...$25 a barrel oil will force shale producers into bankruptcy and then prices will rise again once. Saudi Arabia is the only producer in the world that can produce oil profitably at those prices.

Those are just the cars of the Tesla employees. Turns out selling these messes is lucrative, and they know better then to buy these low quality pieces of garbage.

Yep. Oil is in free fall with no agreement amongst the big producers. I am waiting for some Autospies knucklehead to blame Comcast for this disagreement and the resulting drop in prices and following drop in the markets this AM.

Can always blame Comcast for everything. ;) The bigger question is if they will start making cars after Apple and Google basically gave up on it.
