Tesla Reaches Milestone - Produces 1 Millionth Vehicle

Tesla announced that it produced its 1 millionth electric car — becoming the first automaker to achieve the milestone.

Only a few years ago, many people didn’t believe that Tesla could produce electric vehicles in any meaningful numbers, but the automaker managed to ramp up three electric vehicle programs: Model S, Model X, and Model 3.

Tesla lost money in every year of its existence since 2003, so (on average) it lost money on every car it ever made. Any company that sells things below cost will sell a lot.

I am impressed that a structurally unprofitable company can avoid bankruptcy for so long.

This guy has created something from nothing. He also put EV on the map. I personally have no interest in EV or Tesla or even EM, but the accomplishment is pretty impressive, 1M vehicles... how many others thought of creating a car company but costs prevented it... he did it and is so far still moving forward.

IMO he has really created a space no one else figured out how to create. Clearly one cannot bleed cash forever so he either turns a profit or someone will have to save the day. In the mean time Tesla is "THE" EV company that everyone else wants to mimic. EM is to be applauded...

Amazon, Facebook, and Twitter were unprofitable for a very long time before they starting pulling in profits. There is a difference between a growth business and an established company. Tesla already jumped into new territory where they have to be profitable to continue growing and succeeding. This year will probably be their first profitable one assuming they won't have to shut down the factories again due to the Coronavirus insanity.

Wow.

Will probably only take a couple more years to hit two million.

In 2023 they could be doing a million cars a year at a minimum price of $35-40k and margin of 25%.
