GM Ceo Mary Barra Says EV Market Needs To Be Customer Driven Not By The Government

Last week, General Motors unveiled an entire portfolio of about a dozen electric vehicles that it plans to sell in the next four years. At the event, we had the chance to speak with Mary Barra, GM’s chief executive. We asked Barra about EV profitability, regulations, and the big-ness of most of its upcoming electric vehicle

In January, GM president Mark Reuss told us, “Our next-gen EVs will be profitable from Day One.” So we started there.

Mary Barra is an idiot who has done everything in her power to destroy GM. #Tokenism

Agree with her comment, but that means all oil subsidies and tax breaks should be nuked as well.

Because she has staked GMs future on EVs and “Climate Change” nonsense and that gamble is likely to fail. GM is gone in 10 years or less..

Illogical statement: "but that means all oil subsidies and tax breaks should be nuked as well".

The is no correlation.

"EV Market Needs To Be Customer Driven Not By The Government" --- yes, the Government should stop incentivizing EVs, but they should do the same for ICE cars to be fair. If the Government should butt out, it should drop incentives across the entire industry.

GM Ceo Mary Barra Says EV Market Needs To Be Customer Driven Not By The Government

She did not say that when she needed a bailout.... She went to Uncle Sam

When the infrastructure is in place(ie-Utah is discussing charging stations every 50 miles on their major highways, Electrify America has
a minimum of 5,000 charging stations with a minimum of 4 chargers per station),when the price can come down on EV cost and finally range average is high enough that an 80% charge in 15 minutes or less can net you a minimum of 230 miles then you can talk about market driven.

CA is already there with over 20,000 stations. For fast charging the Bay Area alone has 50+ Superchargers, 100 EVgo stations, and 27 Electrify America CCS stations. Most have 4-8 plugs each, with the newest Superchargers having up to 40 plugs.

It did not take long to get to this point, it's much easier to add chargers than gas stations. I just checked out a mall expansion in San Jose and as part of a new 6-story parking structure they are putting about 20 EV chargers on EACH floor.

All of those chargers are largely clustered around a few areas. Venture beyond them and you'll find yourself parked in a long line waiting for the charger.

In California? The chargers are everywhere, including out in the boonies. Heck, Fresno which is farmville has several hundred chargers. Also, from my experience the chargers in the boonies are the ones least likely to have lines. In the dead space between San Jose and Sacramento for example, hardly anyone was charging.

(this was for a trip last month, today it's like The Walking Dead... all chargers are available)

This is exaggeration: "The chargers are everywhere, including out in the boonies."

This insults people: "Heck, Fresno which is farmville..."

An isolated experience does not refute.

Okay, find an example of a place in CA without chargers for 25 miles or so. Out of CA, agree there are many places that need infrastructure.
