Heart Broken: Base Model Corvettes Are “Virtually Non-Existent” At Dealerships

Ive a thought about the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette and it’s this: the car is really great at a lot of things, but perhaps its biggest draw is that it’s a 500-horsepower, V8 midship sports car for under $60,000. There’s just one problem. It doesn’t seem like there are any for that cheap anywhere.

We reported the new mid-engine Corvette to start at an astonishing $59,995. But now that production delays are behind us and deliveries have finally begun, Cars Direct reports these base-model cars are “virtually non-existent.” The site’s analysts apparently are having trouble either finding a car at that price or one that hasn’t already been sold by a dealer.

One year from now dealerships will be giving these away with a free toaster. Unemployment lines will be coming this Summer.

You don't want the base model. You want a nice 3LT. You want the Z51 pkg, magnetic ride suspension, bigger wheels and high performance tires, extra carbon bits etc.

No surprise. Profit is in the options. Cheaper ones will come later.

Actually, they pretty much won't. Chevy only has to build a couple to not run afoul of the law. With the next-years models, we are being told that the base is moving north to more like $70K

It should be a cash cow for the brand. Albeit a small cow. They should be thinking up more options for it. If you can add $50-$100k in options on other sports cars, why not Corvette? Leathers, paints, carbon wheels, Titanium exhaust, More carbon bits.

If this economy continues to stagger, my bet is a lot of those orders are going to get cancelled. Customers who ordered are going to reassess their need to spend when the economy is contracting.

Except that those who put up the big deposits like we require have the money to weather the storm.
