Automakers will release their U.S. sales results next week. And the entire automotive world will be hungering for information on how the industry fared through the escalating COVID-19 outbreak.

But we won't know. That's because a big chunk of the industry has moved to quarterly sales reports. So when the numbers come out April 1, all we'll get from most of the big players is a combined figure for January, February and March.

Bold prediction: we shouldn't see much abnormality in this report. The NEXT report should be the staggering one. We should see the normal slow January data for example. January is always slow.

We're still seeing sales, but over the past two weeks, more and more is being initiated online first. In some of our stores we have trucked cars to buyers to show them the car. With so much that can be done virtually, people who want cars will still buy.
