Was President Trump RIGHT For Comparing Corona Virus Deaths To CAR Accidents? We Don't Stop Driving Cars Do We?
Today, President Donald Trump used an analogy we are all familiar with here at Auto Spies. Cars and car accidents.

Here is the exact quote:

“We have a very active flu season, more active than most. It’s looking like it’s heading to 50,000 or more deaths — deaths, not cases. 50,000 deaths — which is, that’s a lot. And you look at automobile accidents, which are far greater than any numbers we’re talking about. That doesn’t mean we’re going to tell everybody no more driving of cars. So we have to do things to get our country open.”

The question we have is, was he right to liken the current situation to car accident deaths in the USA, making the parallel that we don't stop driving?

What say you Spies? Does he have a point or is he way off?

That ignorant buffoon nailed nothing. He's a danger to America, period. This statement is yet another example of how this small-minded clown ignores the safety of Americans only to bolster the stock market. He thinks it will win him re-election? Bullshit.

It’s not about saving tHe stock market. There is a tipping point at which economic infrastructure crumbles. What if food and medicine were no longer available? If that happens, deaths from the economic crisis would be worse than the virus itself.

He absolutely did. This was all just a liberal scheme to tank the economy with the impending election. This is their last ditch effort because the rest of their nonsense the last three years had failed miserably. This shows how tremendously insane and evil these people are.

32,000 people die in car accidents in the US each year, which is LESS than 50,000.

Despite his obvious math fail, I think more people will die in car accidents this year than Cornavirus in the US.

And I wholeheartedly agree with "So we have to do things to get our country open.”

I think it would be as simple as testing everyone, those that are clean can go back to work, those that aren't can't leave their house. Those that are at risk can't leave their house until this is over. International travel stays closed until the summer when this will hopefully be fully over.

Come on guys, this is a world wide conspiracy to get Trump. Every county got together and then they invented this whole thing to shut down economies globally just to get him. At least that is what I am reading here and other places.

It's just another idiotic statement from donnie dotard and the vast majority ignore that orange clown.

Thankfully the half-breed, racial token, cocaine-snorting, gay-prostitute buying guy isn't in the White House.

Once again our President is right. We have to view this Chinese virus as a risk to society, but there are a lot of risks in this world. It's estimated up to 59,000 Americans will die from the regular flu this season. On average around 100 Americans die each day from car accidents. Life is about taking risks, and a life with zero risk at all is not a life worth living in my opinion.

I am hopeful that we can get back to normal, and those who are at highest risk of fatality from the Chinese virus can take extra precautions themselves.

It's a moronic analogy. Cars are a necessary part of modern transportation and daily life. This is a temporary adjustment to save lives.

Hey FAQMD, why don't you grow up and learn how to have a discussion without personal insults. Very easy to be talk tough behind a computer. Saving lives has to be the priority in this equation but I understand the balance between this and not crushing the economy.

Crushing the global economy is not a 'temporary adjustment." There are no easy choices here. The current US stimulus is valued at 2 trillion. How many lives will be saved by these business closures? How many jobs will be lost? In the US alone, unemployment will reach 20-30% if shutdowns continue. Hundreds of thousands of businesses will go bankrupt, then mortgages will default, then the economy will massively shrink.

The cure is rapidly becoming 10x worse than the disease.

I agree Supermoto. There is no win/win scenario with situations like these, and the anti-Trump Left and Chinese Communists are pushing any narrative to attack Trump. Which of these is most important?

1. The health of those elderly or with pre-existing conditions that may contract this virus (potentially in the hundreds of thousands)

2. The economic well being of hundreds of millions of Americans that are financially impacted by this virus, and whose economic hardship may take months if not years to recover from?

3. The mental health of those suffering from Anxiety, Depression and Addictions that may result in suicides as a result of the lockdowns and restrictions in place that are currently focused only on those in Group 1?

There is no perfect solution, and if you focus solely on #1 for months on end, you are affecting groups 2 and 3 dramatically. Group 2 is by far the largest group in terms of numbers.

Everything is made in China and so was this virus which I believe (which makes it scientific fact then) that this was a bio weapon that accidentally escaped or was purposely released in a lesser important (industrial) area than Shanghai, Shenzhen, Beijing to defuse the Hong Kong situation and create some cloud cover for themselves.

What it really did is showcase the strength of China of how they were able to control it so fast and show us how weak the rest of the Western world was as it spreads faster and our governments collapse in chaos. Im grateful for this happening as it showed us how weak we really are and reliant on China for all our medical supplies and Walmart shit. Time to bring manufacturing back home and have critical supply chain diversification so we don't have another repeat or be held ransom again. We made China and its time we tame that dragon before it completely eats us.

I love the people -not the regime...
