Honda Bucks The Trend And Starts Moving Touch Screen Controls Back To Traditional Knobs
While most manufacturers are moving to touchscreen controls, identifying smartphone use as their inspiration - most recently seen in Audi’s latest A3 - Honda has decided to reintroduce heating and air conditioning controls via a dial rather than touchscreen, as in the previous-generation Jazz.

Jazz project leader Takeki Tanaka explained: “The reason is quite simple - we wanted to minimise driver disruption for operation, in particular, for the heater and air conditioning.

There really isn't much purpose for a touch screen beyond displaying maps. Touch screens are just distracted driving.

well, how would you input destination info? spin a dial?

now with a map app on every mobile phone, is a navigation service even necessary in vehicles today?

i agree with the original post....just playing devil's advocate.

You could be old school and know where in hell you're going before you get in the car.

you must not be married or forever divorced, MDarringer. lol

trying telling my wife that she needs to "always" know where she's going.

My wife isn't an idiot like yours is then. When she gets in the car she knows where in hell she is going. She can also clip apexes in a Sagaris like a pro. So just because you diminish women, don't say that of me.

Good for Honda. I hate touch screens in a car. Especially if the touchscreen is positioned on top of the dash. That makes zero sense.

The issue isn't the screen, but the UI. It has to be intuitive. Also helps if you have voice control or steering wheel control for most/all functions.

And knobs are automatistic.

steering wheel controls are still somewhat of a distraction - albeit less then having to reach over to the center screen.

The fact that the screen and knobs are not centered over the gear shift is disturbing.

If I was the manufacturer. I would keep the touchscreens, more profitable for me everytime that it fail you will have to come to me and will charge you to fix several faults due to ignorance. I do not see other easier way to make money.
