When Car Sales Resume, Will The Same Models Be Popular Or Will People's Choices CHANGE?
Whenever there is a crisis, things change and are never the same. Kennedy assassination, 9/11, Coronavirus, etc.

All game changers.

This is especially a weird time because during all of those previous incidents, the economy didn't shut down.

And car sales didn't go into life support.

Many people made choices before the crisis with an optimism that everything is all good and didn't think to much. They bought what excited them whether or not they checked all the important buttons.

But after this, we wonder will people go right back to the way things were, or will they as Apple said 'Think Different'?

What say you Spies. Will peoples vehicle choices change and become more geared toward 'what if' scenarios?

I think this will be a much needed wake up call and people will be more cautious going forward. Most are living pay check to paycheck with no savings or cushion and this recession/depression is going to put many business and people under with records now getting EI or applying for such benefits.

Im more nervous of our Canadian government and all this stimulus spending as this shit needs to get paid back and will only happen via much higher GENERATIONAL taxation in both corporate and personal rates, inheritance tax coming soon now as will increases in the GST rate back to 7%.

nah...

most people aren't even thinking "dang, I shouldn't have bought that silly trendy SUV". yes, people are losing jobs due to layoffs...from the Shelter-in-Place orders. But there are so many real opportunities for these same people to have payments deferred. So many consumers should be missing payments.

now with gas prices dropping by more than $1.50 in a lot of areas, the SUV trend will only continue. and since the US automakers are getting deals to support the US medical industry with equipment production, they will be less likely to make any product changes once vehicle sales increase to normal.

Scary times indeed. But just like other depressions, the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer.

Cheap gas = Big SUV

But I am driven by good deals, and I am sure there will be plenty to choose from later this year.

Most people will make adjustments in their priorities and lifestyle thinking twice about what to spend money on and when. Don't think cars will be near top of list and makers will have to offer large incentives to generate sales. Also likely that manufactures will accelerate cutting models out of their
lineup further reducing consumer choices.

Sales will tank for a while. Many people with serviceable vehicles will keep what they have rather than upgrading. It will be a really good buyers market with huge discounts for a few months for those who can afford to buy a new car right now.

Our--mostly online--sales have seen the F150, Silverado, Expedition, Tahoe, and Suburban continue strongly. Interestingly, our Mustang sales are up. Explorer cratered. Escape cratered. Traverse cratered. Equinox cratered. Telluride going strong. Sorento queries are coming in. Bronco and Bronco Sport have queries coming in.
