Silver Lining? Red Light Camera Revenues Plummet Because No One Is Driving

As the coronavirus pandemic grinds the world (and our roads) to a halt, most automotive and automotive-adjacent industries are hurting. New car sales are in the dump and projected to get worse. Gas prices are gloriously low, yes, but that's putting the future of gas stations themselves at risk. Among the doom, gloom, and opportunistic street racers, however, we find a silver lining: red light cameras aren't making any money.

From Business Insider, Australian "traffic safety program" operator Redflex posted an update on Monday saying it predicts much lower revenues thanks to the COVID-19 situation and much lighter traffic.

That's a lie. I see cars all over the place. Every fast food restaurant is lined up with cars. People just driving slower around red cameras since they already dont have a job why create a red light ticket?

That's f-ed up to say. NY is a shitshow right now, doing worse than most countries around the world. Should take the potential impact seriously so that we can get back to normal asap. Texas and CA haven't seem much impact yet, but it could get just as bad as NY if we're too cocky.

NY is a disaster because of CUOMO who diverted money from preparedness to welfare state expenditures and now the fucking bastard it trying to play "man of the people". There is ZERO evidence that is vetted that says social distancing and sheltering in place work. In fact, in northern California where the Liberal morons swallowed lockdown quickly, the cases continue to grow and grow. The WORLD coronavirus death rate for the first three months of this year is 0.0000027% given recently adjusted data.

I used to think the same way, but the issue is when there aren't enough supplies and people die just because of lack of resources. I think the death rate of the virus will end up being closer to the flu at 0.1 or 0.2%. Once we have the supplies and medical resources I'm all for reducing a lot of these restrictions. Also, CA is doing extremely well versus other dense states in the US and World when it comes to actual deaths and has enough resources (they are even loaning ventilators to NY).
