I prefer to think of myself as an intrepid son of a bitch at least that's what my wife said when she announced she was marrying me.

"Why are you marrying HIM?" [i.e. wrong side of the tracks]
"He's an intrepid son of a bitch."

So many really amazing vehicles. Clearly Mercedes was at the top of their game and I'd say are still living off the reputation they created back then. The W115, W126 and W124 are simply legends. I've had a 300SE, 560SL, and E320 from those days, clearly the "last of the cost is no object" engineered, Mercedes-Benz products... The 6-Series BMW is high on my list as is the 83 911SC and 928S4 and the 560SL. The 1987 535i I remember driving while I was in the Marines and was amazed at its effortless performance and dynamics...

Boy it's been a while since I've seen a Subaru XT on the road - the last time, was, well, never. I've literally never seen on one the road, ever.

Still a student back then, but a 1988 Porsche 928S4 would have been nice.

Agreed on that one, the 928 was an amazing car and with the S4 cleaned up the styling and bumped the power in the larger 5.0L motor. They are also much smaller than pictures seem to impart, an impressive car for sure. Interesting story, my father was a Dr and we have the same name... I am a III, he was a Jr. Well I believe Porsche got us mixed up, as at the time I was just out of the Air Force and starting college, but they sent me the invitation to spend a day in one along with a nice large poster of one (I still have it somewhere). So I took them up on the offering and spent a day in one driving around the Dallas Ft Worth area. My father was a bit upset about the whole thing so he went and bought a Jaguar instead.

What's up with that color of her nails?

Up to year 2K the 7 series looks nicer than S class, more of a gentleman's car. But after that BMW was screwed up by an American named Bangle

Dad has a 560 SEL black on black. Gorgeous car. I coveted the 560 SEC.

In the late 70's I had a 450 Sel 6.9 - which - at the time - was the game changer of all cars = there was literally nothing like it at all - and until it was stolen in the early 80's - it reigned supreme.

At that point I had a bunch of Kids in Med School and College - and worked a number of jobs to pay for that. I had no memorable cars.

Born early 80s and I still love those SEL. Especially the 560s my uncle had. My grandfather had a 380 sel turbodiesel in the UK. He only buys s classes and still does to this very day.

I spent a good bit of time in Germany in the 80s and I was really checking out a lot of the cars we did not have in the US. My good friend had a Peugeot 205 GTi which was an amazing little hatch. Totally changed my thinking about cars forever. Having been raised on Trucks, Camaro, Mustangs, Chargers, Corvettes etc... that first quick ride with him was an eye opener. There was a guy from a nearby village that I would meet once in a while that had a Ford Sierra Cosworth with the giant spoilers and all. Another eye opening car. Back then I thought only the tiniest of cars and motorcycles could have a usable 4cyl engine. I admired the Audi Quattro of that era and the Scirocco 16V was a neat kind of Jr Audi at the time. Of course Porsche was doing well with the above mentioned 928 but I did not see to many of those. The 944s were really catching on and those along with the 924S were pretty darn quick cars on the winding back roads of Europe. Finally the some of the Ford Rally cars that were just the pinnacle of the Rally scene were very cool. Although the 80s seems like a down decade for cars there were some good things happening that accelerated the 90s and onward.
