CAR WARS! Knowing What You Know NOW, Would You Buy The Mid-Engine Corvette Or Porsche 911 With YOUR Money?
It's hard to argue with the Porsche 911. I know, I've owned quite a few.

But as much as I liked them I always thought they would be BETTER than they were. Faster, less expensive, more radical exterior, more unique.

To get one optioned right, it's mid 100's these days.

But there's a new kid in town. The mid-engine Corvette. Pretty much the only game changing thing GM has produced in 30+ years.

But let's give them credit. This new Vette is FINALLY what people have been wishing for. No more Wal-Mart interior, rat fur carpets and compromise after compromise.

So here's the question.

If it was YOUR money RIGHT NOW, would you spend it on a new Vette or go with the classic 911?

Spies, discuss.

The 'Vette is 95% the car for 50% the money. Easy choice.

And just wait till the Z06.

Exactly, I’d get the Vette and a certified pre owned 911 for around the same price, kill 2 birds with one check

In the Past - driving a REar engine Sports car was a Job - they did not handle anything like front or even mid engine cars - as a result - I always thought that Porsches were not fun for ME to drive. While they have improved that over the years - I still would prefer a Mid-Engine over the rear engine. THey are easier to drive fast to me.

I would still have to drive the Corvette before I made a decision though. Being quite Tall - I still have to see IF I can actually easily find a comfortable driving position - and since the money is not an issue for me - the choice for me is not limited to a Porsche. However - of course - I love my Superfast - and really do not need lesser vehicles anyway.

If money is not an issue I would buy the Porsche but the Vette has stepped up the game and is a great sports car for the money.

C8 going being be more reliable and easier to fix the a 911. It about $40K less too!

Not so sure it will be more reliable, Porsche usually tops all the reliability and dependability rankings along with Lexus. Chevy is usually at the bottom along with its depreciation.

I ordered a C8 - last on the list for this years production (maybe). Never liked the past Vettes, felt like too much car in front of me. I like the new 911, but it's kinda plastic looking in the front for a car of it's $$$ - you can get a used v8 Vantage for 1/2 the price of the Vette with a metal grill. At $71K as optioned out - the car I ordered is a tremendous value for the $$$. The 911's sitting on the local dealers lot are all way over $100K - does not take much to skyrocket the window sticker of a 911. Lastly - sound was important to me - and the sound of a 911 even with sport exhaust is noting I'd want to hear spending that kind of $$$. Concerns? The passenger seat of the Vette is claustrophobic - sat in it and felt I had to get out. The rear visibility - there is none. The distance from the drivers view to the bottom of the windshield seems like a massive distance. The 911 has none of those issues.

At this point, GM is moving 2020 orders to 2021 models.

Vette and second hand Vantage or Panamera.

If you are brave enough you can get a Vantage for about $30k, which is wild. Most have over 4 owners, which is always a red flag, but still an Aston for $30k is pretty amazing.

Hands down the C8.

C8 does look amazing especially for the price. Regarding price, the one shining factor on any 911 is their depreciation schedule. I sold my 2012 997.2 911 in January for $5k less than what I bought it for with 30k more miles and an additional 4 years of use. Anyone have any insight on how the Corvette's historically depreciate?

The Vette looks pretty good, but it’s still a Chevy and I’m not in a mid life crisis.
Give me the Porsche.

For the money, I'd definitely go for a Z51 Vette. OTOH, if I were looking to drop some serious coin, I'd be all over a 911 GT3.

I don't really think these cars get cross-shopped much. I played around with the configurator on a 911 Carerra S and got the price to nearly $160k.

If the back end of the Vette looked better, maybe I would consider it. Also, I'm not wild about the giant divider between the driver and passenger. I think the non-convertible would be too claustrophobic.

Price no object the 911 of course. Much better build quality and availability of a manual transmission. Price being an object new Cayman GTS. I don't give a crap about 0-60. Again better build quality and not that much more money. Also a manual transmission and return of the lovely flat six. If I need to get high smelling furniture glue there are cheaper alternatives.

The initial C8s have some real quality control issues that are glaring. Issues that are so evident that the cars should not have been released to dealers.
