TRUMPED: General Motors Now Promises 30,000 Ventilators At Less Than HALF The Original Asking Price

General Motors will build 30,000 ventilators for the national stockpile for $489.4 million to assist in the coronavirus pandemic, federal officials announced Wednesday.

The Department of Health and Human Services said the contract is the first for ventilators under the Defense Production Act, which was invoked last month by President Donald Trump.

The Detroit automaker will produce and deliver the ventilators to the government by the end of August, with the first 6,132 ventilators being delivered by June 1, the agency said. Production is expected to begin next week, according to a GM spokesman.

The old hag couldn't see the benefit of doing the right and obvious thing. She's probably thinking: "If only I had my lover Johan here." Because--of course--De Nysschen is the man with the plan.

It’s good thing big government is being cheered for telling businesses what to do.

Now we can use this knowledge to provide proper health care for everyone in the future.

Yes indeed - the model Ventilator GM is producing was originally designed to sell for less than the new - lower price. Now - they do have to convert a factory - not just produce them - but at $16,333 each - that is still quite a bit higher than many small manufacturers are getting for them.

What is the price range of yours both new and remanufactured? Im not in that market niche but am just curious as lots of companies are jumping on the bandwagon and making them here in Ontario including auto parts giant Linamar? Not sure if they are doing it as good corporate citizens or if there is money to be made...

GM had a marketing opportunity that comes along maybe once or twice in a generation and turned it into a disaster. When it’s country was in need to great fanfare the President calls out GM as volunteering to step up to help out its country.

Baseball, Hotdogs and Chevrolet suddenly became more powerful. Instead Mary B saw it as an opportunity to grab cash from the government like so many did in 2008/09. Never thinking that Trump would publicly call them out for it and then invoke the DPA.
