Mercedes Sales Dipped 4.8% In First Quarter

Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported Q1 sales of 67,746 Mercedes-Benz models. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz Vans recorded Q1 sales of 7,520, bringing MBUSA to a grand total of 75,266 vehicles for the quarter, a decrease of 4.3% over the comparable period last year. MBUSA got off to a strong start in 2020, bolstered by growing demand for our comprehensive lineup of new and recently refreshed SUVs. However, disruptions to our dealership network caused by the COVID-19 pandemic combined to negatively impact our results during the final weeks of the quarter.

“Our top priority during this unprecedented global health crisis is the wellbeing of our employees, customers and dealer partners,” said Nicholas Speeks, President and CEO of MBUSA. “Every department is mobilized to responsibly service the needs of our customers and supporting our dealer partners to the best of our ability.”

Mercedes-Benz volume leaders in Q1 included the GLC, GLE and E-Class/CLS model lines. The GLC led totals with 13,098 units followed by GLE with sales of 11,802. E-Class/CLS rounded out the top three with 7,060 units.

Q1 sales of Mercedes-AMG high-performance models totaled 6,427 units.

Separately, Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) models recorded sales of 32,109 vehicles during the first quarter of 2020, up 5.7% over the same period in 2019.

All things considered, pretty good result. Not a double digit drop like almost every other brand, premium or not. In the critical SUV stage, Benz crushed BMW 41K units to 35K units. GLS stomped on the X7. GLC stomped on the X3/X4. GLE and X5/X6 are even. GLA/GLB crushed the X1/X2.

M-B USA first quarter results don't yet fully reflect the brand's downward trend being experienced in China (-20%) and the EU (-16%) as virus spreads from China to Europe then to US.

You say that as if to imply other brands didn't experience a decrease. BMW is reporting a decrease of 30% in China.

Benz is killing it and I think they’ll be in the best position post corona out of most of their rivals

I wonder how long Tata is going to continue its charity.

Sad, because JLR have beautiful designs but terrible reliability.

They do? The XJ is a Merkur Scorpio homage. The XE is generic and dull. The XF and FPace are hardly pulse racers. The IPace in person is just a nasty little hatchback. The at LRRR it's overlap overlap overlap with generic styling. Callum stayed WAY too long. Ironically, the Bertone B99 would still be a stunningly correct move.

May be I like cars that seems to be boring for you. I like the sensual lines of most of the Jaguars but exclude all Electric cars.

That's just it though. An E Type or the first XJ6 have sexual lines. Hell, the Bertone B99 is sensual, but the most recent XJ was scathingly panned on introduction and the current XF is a dumbed down version of the first XF which was a dumbed-down-to-generic-and-boring version of the gorgeous CXF. Jaguar is in a styling crisis because of Callum who thankfully is gone.

LOL, on a tangent, if I were making the worst car company on the planet it would have Mary Barra and Johan De Nysschen running it with Callum and Gilles being clumsy stylists.
