If YOU Were President Trump, What Would YOU Do For The Auto Industry To Get It Rolling Again? Make A Car Purchase 100% Tax Deductible?
To say world leaders and their teams have their work cut out for them when this pandemic finally breaks, could be the understatement of this new decade.

But the stakes in the USA are the highest because we HAD, the best economy before this crisis.

President Trump has already said he will be helping industries like airlines, cruise business, etc.

But he hasn't hinted anything detailed about what he might or might not do for the auto industry.

Oil and cars? The two biggest industries?

That would be a yes.

So we're asking our savvy, car-centric audience to weigh in on their favorite subject.

If you were the President, what would YOU do to rev things back up? Make a vehicle purchase 100% deductible in 2020? Or something else?

And don't say another cars and clunkers. What a DOG that was and SO 2008.

Spies, discuss...

You are correct because there were too many conditions attached to that. Not everyone needs or wants to buy a car. So giving that a tax break but not other big ticket items could be opening a can of worms.

If I were Trump....god what a nightmare that’d be...I’d back away slowly and admit what a fraud I am and that I need help.

This Coronavirus has exposed Trump for the piss poor leader he is, embarrassing America and currently leaves us with a higher death toll than any other country due to his incompetence and shrugging info off about this thing month as ago saying it will all “WASH away”.

The Auto industry doesn’t believe in Trump and neither does the global community, he couldn’t save his airline, university, magazine, casino, vodka, travel, or mortgage companies....So How the hell do you expect him to save the auto industry?LMAO

Pelosi only destroys. She is raping The Constitution. I will piss on her grave the second that cold hard bitch is in the ground.

California has the 5th largest economy in the world but is always teetering on insolvency due to the fascist-socialists like Denture Bitch and her nephew-in-law Governor Groper Newshit.

The republican led government just spent $2T in the most expensive government spending bill ever...this is socialism. They are taking our money and handing it out to everyone, sounds very Californian to me? California being the largest economy in the US doesn't happen by accident, it takes policy and planning by those in charge. From my understanding Pelosi has been in power in California a very long time. Be grateful MDarringer, you live in CA and you're obviously rich based on your comments. I just hope you weren't one of those rich kids in high school who had like an M3 that his parents bought him and pretended like you were self made.

If Schumer came up with car loans being 100% deductible then Denture Bitch would love it, but if Trump proposed it, PMS Nancy would lose her mind and start babbling incoherently.

Making interest on car loans 100% deductible no strings from here on would be a very good benefit for consumers, but that wouldn't turbocharge sales.

Making the trade in value tax deductible would be clever too.

Removing the gas guzzler tax would be another benefit, but not enough to cause a stampede at the dealers.

Putting America back to work May 1 would be the best move. Then with some of the tax incentives, people might feel inclined to buy a car.

His MPG rollback is a huge benefit to the industry but they are too stupid to see that.

I don’t think we need anymore government intervention and certainly not to keep some of these zombie car companies alive. We’ve already basically nationalized the entire “free” market. The government is buying everything except for actual stocks. I was always under the impression that the republican base hated big government and socialist type programs, rightly so, but some how those beliefs went out the window in an effort to save the Dow. I’m a believer in capitalism, let these obsolete companies fail and the strong and smart will prevail.

You are so moronic. Believe it or not when 0% is offered the vast majority of sales still are % loans. Many times it's 0% OR a rebate. 0% doesn't apply to leases and leases are a big chunk of the sales market. You also have to qualify for the 0% and there are many who don't. Thus, 0% is more advertising than reality.

I'll second that. After dismantling our pandemic response units in the government including the people around the world including in Wuhan that were positioned to catch something like this quickly, and cutting the CDC budget almost in 1/2 not sure Trump would know the best thing to do. It's unforunate that he was so careless with the budget these last couple years and exploded the annual deficit otherwise he may have had more room to manuever. At this point other than resign I imagine anything he does will be disastrous. Need to let the grownups run the country and boot the fascist out.

Auto industry in general? You’re going to need to get everyone out of their house and back on the road. Not a lot of people are going to be excited to buy a new car to park it in the driveway, even if they are financially incentivized. The US manufacturers, however, are in a much tougher spot. Other than Tesla, Jeep, and the Ford F150 the vast majority of US brands have no identity and will continue to suffer, regardless of incentives.

Screw the auto industry. If they can't make a viable product (Chrysler) let them fail as another company will fill the void. One thing Trump could do which would really boost the auto industry and the economy overall is to outlaw Unions as they are no longer needed with todays modern age H&S and labor legislation and are nothing more than business killing cancer regardless of industry or service.

I like this idea. So simple and saves everyone almost 10%. I still think the bigger question will be, if you don't have the need to drive (aka stay-at-home is a larger norm) are you looking to buy a new car? I will be really interested to see how company's respond to this new post-COVID world. Think of the all the office leases and office space currently sitting dark and companies learning they are able to operate when a large portion of their workforce is working from home. Even if employees are 70% or 80% as efficient at home than in the office, you are going to see a shift in office footprints. Companies are always looking at ways to save money and if they can reduce liability in the process, while maintaining performance this could be a big change in how we work.

We can start by keeping the stupid dhims the hell away from the next round of legislation. Enough of the pork barrel crap to their pet liberal causes. Seriously - $25 million to the JFK Center for Performing Arts and they lay off the staff? Screw that. Meanwhile we've got the idiot governor of Michigan and her liberal accomplices that are the media, claiming that hydroxycholoroquine is a dangerous drug. Except the drug is SAVING folks all over the world and more and more studies are coming in showing its efficacy.

But wait, Trump was bad for banning travel from countries like China right? He was called all sorts of things when he did that. Now they're saying he should have done it sooner. You can't make this crap up! The dhims are in perpetual campaign mode. Trump's given the states everything they needed. The USN Mercy is parked off the coast of NYC and it's basically empty despite the media talking about how bodies are piling up and there are no ventilators or hospital beds. The media is now the lying arm of the DNC. Both are totally corrupt.

Liberalism used to mean something - open minded for one. Now the liberal left is the most closed minded bunch of fascist goons since the real Nazis. They're thugs who assault people. They deprive us of our constitutional rights. And they want to institute basically a police state where only their policies are allowed.

Screw that. And screw you liberals.

1) Ok then you need to include yourself as a dhim. That $25M was put in the Senate bill, the Senate is controlled by the Republicans and Trump himself defended that expenditure.

2) Nice article on hydroxycloroquine with references to real studies, the FDA and others (maybe not Sean Hannity though :( ) https://www.forbes.com/sites/anitabartholomew/2020/04/08/hydroxychloroquine-for-covid-19-cure-all-or-flim-flam/#275b40ce675b

Facism? Maybe a quick read of "It Can't Happen Here" should be on your booklist.

Don't run around screwing everything, could get you in trouble or at least lots of child support.

This ranting and raving is tedious. Realize that this virus is going to be changing how we live for a long time, including buying cars. A viable auto industry is vital for our economy as there are so many ancillary businesses that support and are supported by the auto industry. The fact of the matter is that due to the shut down of the economy and the massive amount of unemployment socialism is simply a bi-product keeping people from living on the street at this point. There is simply no choice. The government is going to have to kick in on ALL industries and doal out money multiple times. We are going to be in this scenario for the next couple of years. People have to have money to buy things, pay their rent, make their car payments. That requires having a job. The government has to support all the severely damaged industries so companies can re-hire. Its no time for Conservatives and Republicans to be screaming now. Like it or not we are in a socialistic state until the economy can come out of this. Deal with it!

About the $25 million to the JFK Center, Trump actually said "That was a Democrat request. That was not my request."

Hydroxychorloquine is accepted as treatment for Corona the world over now, except in the mind of the DNC and the liberal press media who continue to try and discredit it as a means to attack Trump. It's pathetic. And using Forbes as a source for science is laughable. I prefer to read the real studies published by the folks who used the medication and have shown it works.

Also nice try by the dhims claiming that government intervention is tantamount to socialism. TOTALLY FALSE. Socialism is an ideology of centralized control of thought, trade, and manufacturing. That's not what's happening here. Here the government is simply giving back some of the money we've paid them! Liberals OTOH are in the business of controlling what everyone thinks, says, and does. They tolerate no dissent and are closed minded. They are wholly intolerant and will use fascist means to enforce their ideology.

First-I'm not ranting or raving. Stating that Hydroxychorloquine is accepted treatment for Corona is complete and total bullshit! It is a Malaria drug that is currently undergoing tests. There have been studies that it can cause arrhythmia in some people. It is not a cure all. If that were the case the world would not be dealing with hundreds of thousands of dead people within a 45 to 60 day period. A usable vaccine at the minimum is a year away. Until then social distancing is the only viable way to protect your ass. You stay at home, get your groceries delivered, go to the drive up postal drop off and the drive up bank teller. When receiving mail you either spray with alcohol or let items sit all day in the sun. You watch a lot of Netflix, play video games or go on a chat room like this and bullshit a bit. You are right true socialism is an ideology of centralized thought, trade and manufacturing. Its refreshing to hear a Republican honestly say what True Socialism is. Bravo!
