If You Were President, How Would You Restart The Car Industry?

As the global health crisis pivots toward becoming an economic one, the automotive industry is understandably eager to know when it can begin producing cars again. The situation isn’t going to be as easy as throwing open a few breaker boxes and giving the thumbs up. A mile-long list of problems, many of which lack easy answers, will first have to be tackled before things return to normal.

Supply chains will be slow to move — and potentially severed — as other nations wait longer to walk back social distancing measures. Not all factories will resume operation at the same time, and not all parts suppliers or shipping agencies will have made it through the coronavirus pandemic intact. It’s also uncertain how quickly customers will return to the market. In tougher financial times, customers may remain hesitant in making large purchases; meanwhile, localized quarantines will undoubtedly continue suppressing sales in certain markets. Then we have the elephant in the room — the vast amount of money this colossal reboot is going to require.

Restarting the car industry will not be a simple task, but here are a few things to do.

1. Focus on the macro-economy first and getting people back to work. We had the best economy in the world and the lowest unemployment for minority groups, and when people are working they have a reliable income to spend on large purchases like new cars. Getting consumer confidence back up should be a top priority.

2. Offer tax incentives to encourage consumers to buy vehicles in 2020. This will help build up demand for vehicles and get factories and supply chains back to work.

3. Incentivize supply chains/industries to move back to the US (from China or other parts of the world). This will again help bring more good-paying jobs to the US and will minimize our dependence on foreign bodies.

"Restarting the car industry will not be a simple task..." it also won't be that difficult either.

Brilliant except get money to workers. Personally, I'm taking my $1,200 to buy a McLaren. $1200's enough for rent, food and a low end McLaren, right?

1. Say #FU to the covidiots.
2. Open America for business.
3. Make interest on new car loans begun in 2020 100% deductible regardless of income.
4. Make depreciation on any new car bought in 2020 100% deductible regardless of income.
5. Give a $2000 deduction for buying a new car in 2020 that is made in the USA.

If you were in charge 2,000,000 people would be dead by summer.

At least the president isn't as idiotic. Barely.

Incorrect.

The original "2.5 million gonna die" is now down to an estimated 30K, a statistically insignificant amount.

At the current rate of death, it is statistically impossible to have 2 million die.

And by the way the mathematical/statistical response to the virus is what you Alt-Lefties wanted instead of a medical/scientific response.

With the latter, we would be developing immunity rapidly. Your tribe wants to preserve the coronavirus so it can mutate and kill more in a year.

Maybe you should have gotten an education beyond high school.

The two million figure comes from the mouth of your dear leader.

Current estimates project deaths at 60k - and that's only if everyone continues to stay home.

You drones never cease to amaze me with your breathtaking stupidity.

There is a difference if someone dies with Coronavirus and because of Coronavirus. Apparently there is a financial benefit to label cause of death as Coronavirus vs say congestive heart failure with Coronavirus.

It’s been reported that a large percentage of the deaths in Italy related to Coronavirus are With Coronavirus as opposed to because of Coronavirus. There are considerations to re-examine the causes of death in Italy and relabel them.

I'd stop going on TV talking about the Corona Virus and making a fool of myself. I also stop contracting my team of medical experts. I'd stop tweeting about it too.

Then I would sit down with the auto leaders and hear what they had to say and what suggestions they had for kick starting sales. Knowing everyone wants the tax payers money, I'd be interested to hear their own suggestions as free market firms.

The Democrats are sooooo fucking themselves over.

They should have gotten behind Pete Bootieplug and not mentioned Trump at all.

The failed impeachment strengthened Trump.

The fact that the Democrats refused to do anything about the coronavirus while they were busy fapping to get release over the impeachment has only strengthened Trump.

Denture Bitch tearing up the State of the Union speech strengthened Trump.

Martini Queen's constant hostility strengthened Trump.

Bernie dropping out strengthened Trump.

Running Joe "Creepy Hands" Bidet ensures a landslide victory.

The Democrats using COVID19 to turn the USA into Venezuela is strengthening Trump because people see how strong the economy was and how gleefully the Democrats moved to bankrupt common people, to hasten home foreclosures, and to precipitate car repossessions.

It's laughable how much Canadians pay attention to American politics. You guys have your own plethora of problems: https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/the-canadian-way-of-dealing-with-a-pandemic-ineffective-clueless-and-dishonest/

The problem with Canadians as well as Europeans is their filtered news sources covering Trump make MSNBC look pro Trump. It really is that bad, spent enough time in Europe being forced to watch their news outlets while US outlets via Wi-Fi were blocked.

@Foncool, where in Europe were US news outlets blocked by the local government? Lived there a total of 6 years and traveled to almost every country in Europe and never had anything blocked by the local government. I will say GDPR is causing a lot of issues and it is the US news outlets that are blocking Europeans (via IP address) from using them. GDPR requires websites to obtain consent from users before collecting personal information, explain what data are being collected and why, and delete a user’s information if requested and many news sites in the US refuse to meet those requirements because they collect our data and sell it.

So true. Our asshole media here are all bought and paid for trolls of the Liberal Government and the leader Mohamed Trudeau Dictator of Canuckistan. The CBC gets over $1.5B of tax money every year so of course everything that comes out of there reporting is Trudeau the good and Trump the bad.

The rest of our print media is bought off with a $500 or 600M Fund for "trusted news sources" -say anything negative about the Fiberals or our asshole Prime Minister and you are out Yup they bought the medias silence with taxpayers money!!!. Not 1 single Canadian media source would DARE show the video of Trudeau in blackface (one of many times) in torn jeans dancing around acting like an APE. Only foreign media sources would show it and braindead Canadians voted this asshat of an embarrassment back in to yet further destroy our economy and erase our cultural identity (unless it is French related) with his open border "gypsies wanted immigration policy" and lack of any balls.

I am ashamed to be a Canadian and I could sell my property here Id move stateside but all my properties are all paid for and crashing hard with this depression coming on. Americans may escape it but we are going to be screwed with the pathetic leadership we have -ruling and opposition.

Eliminate sales tax and reimburse states fairest and most affordable way. 100% deductibility is over the top...maybe make first $15,000 deductible.

We are at 30K dead today so obviously the death rate is going to be much higher. Clearly 2 million seems out of whack. But I could imagine over 100K. As for the Yellow Haired Lard Ass Trump was on an upward track. Unfortunately he made up a bunch of bullshit in January when he said its all under control and will go away. Anyone who wants a test can get one etc. The guy who has his shit together and tells it like it is without bullshit is NY Governor Andrew Cuomo. He does not make things up. He can take on tough questions and answer them straight. He does not accuse the media of fake news. If he were running for president I pick him in a NY minute.
