The New Z Car Is Coming From Nissan. Are You Interested Or Is It Dead On Arrival?
If you've been waiting for the next Nissan Z car, there is great news. The 370z will be replaced by a new model dubbed the 400z.

It will have a twin-turbocharged V6 and it will output new levels of performance.

But let's ask the most important question...are there THAT many people waiting for a next gen Z car?

Are you and are you excited or is this thing dead on arrival?

DOA

They are doing an asinine "Supra" thing. And the Supra is not setting the world on fire with its sales.

Nissan should instead targeting the Mustang market spread of variations and prices. That is the sweet spot, not the Supra.

The next Z needs to do what the 2005 Mustang did for Ford. By going unashamedly "retro aged forward" the Mustang was reinvigorated.

A "retro aged forward" 240Z would be amazing because after the 240/260/280Z, the stying of the Z went from disco awkward (280ZX), to presentable but dull (300ZX), to generic (300ZX), to flat out ugly (350/370Z).

And I've said something to this effect before:

240Z / 2.4T / $26K base
370Z / V6 / $30K base
560Z / V8 / $35K base
Nismo-Z / V6TT / $45K base

Nissan doesn't need a niche car it need something that is a strong seller.

Totally agree with that general direction. I would make it an I6 if they have one to use and instead of the V8 I would put a turbo I6. That was part of it's original appeal. It was not trying to be a super car but instead it was a good handling, affordable and sporty alternative to Camaros and Mustangs.

SUV is where the market is heading, not two seater low to ground non sound proof slow sport coupes!

Very interested. Any company making a new sports car instead of bland soccer mom suv/cuv will get a look from me. The Supra is a let down so hopefully nissan does it right

Stupid move for a company basically non life support with limited cash reserves. Why pursue a low volume market niche with a car nobody is asking for?

If they made it a high-volume niche car, their profits would go up.

I am tired of suv’s as well. And curious - any studies on the cause and affect of our roads? Suvs with more weight and bigger tires must be damaging our roads.

As a previous G35 owner, I'm more than happy to see a new Z, but I doubt Nissan will have the resource to engineer a new platform that can compete with Supra/Z4 properly. A platform shared between Z and Q/Skyline just won't cut it

The Supra isn't the right target. The Mustang is. That's where the money is. Thus a platform shared with the Infiniti Qwhatever and the Z is precisely the right move.

At Toyota dealers, customers are looking at Supras which are $30K more expensive than a GT86 and are smaller than the GT86. The Celica was very much a Japanese Mustang effort and it was wildly successful.

Nissan needs to follow suit.

Traditionally it's not competitor of Supra, but now that the latter moves down the segment, who's to say quality-conscious people won't cross-shop between them?

Look-Anytime a company decides to come out with or continue with a sports car in their lineup is a good thing in my book. If Nissan were wise they would NOT go after the Supra market. Rather I think it would make more sense to go after the 86/BRZ market. At the very minimum offer a Z with options no more than a 4 cylinder Supra. Second still offer a manual transmission(simply because a Supra doesn't offer it).Maybe Nissan should get with Toyota and Subaru and share the new GR platform with the replacement BRZ/86 but put their own engine into it.A sports car should not be a sported up SUV/CUV. Its not meant to carry 5 passengers and have gobs of cargo space. Its meant for a single person or a couple that don't need to carry ALL their living home junk when they travel! So I would say keep it in the 30 to 45K range, give a little bit of retro styling harking back to the original Z and Wala!
