2020 Hyundai Veloster N To Have An Optional 8 Speed DCT
Hyundai's joyous little Veloster N has so far been an experience reserved for the driving elite—those capable of operating three pedals in harmony. But the delight of wheeling a Veloster N belongs to this small subset of drivers just as much as fire does the Greek gods, which is why Hyundai, the proverbial Prometheus of this story, will soon make the Veloster N more approachable with the addition of an automatic transmission.

Hyundai confirmed the new transmission via its social media channels on Monday, stating that the hatch will soon be offered with an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. Unsurprisingly, this new box will be shifted via steering wheel-mounted paddles, as depicted in brief flashes of a video posted to the company YouTube channel.

The Veloster in many way is what the GTI needs to be (1) affordable, (2) in-your-face styling, (3) quality build, (4) reliable, and (5) a Godzilla warranty.

Is performance part of this equation? Or is it like number 11 on your list?

The Veloster can hang with a GTI no problem. Go drive one.

Hyundai's RM19 is a mid-engined RWD version of the Veloster with a little under 400 HP. Biermann knows how to tune a chassis for performance.

Well an RM19 if it comes to the market will be an expensive Halo car for Hyundai. That means miniscule sales. The 8 Speed DCT is a great move for Hyundai in the Veloster. It will give Hyundai a much expanded market over a Civic type R. The N already out performs and outhandles a VW GTI. The DCT should knock a half second off it's 0-60 time. I would like to see Hyundai offer a sunroof and heated seats. Perhaps if they can increase their volume they can offer this as a running change on the N models and or Turbo R models.

Agreed. Not sure about the sunroof but certainly heated seats, steering wheel and AWD would be nice for the northern mid west and the mountain states.
