If Only There Was A New BMW Right Now That Stirred The Emotions Like This One Did.
When 00R and I chat about cars the conversation inevitably turns to which products move us. He owns an M2 and I've owned at LEAST 20 of them over the years.

But right now we we chat, I voice to him that NOTHING they sell MOVES me or makes me want to LUST after one. Great cars still, but in my opinion, they've LOST their MOJO.

But when I saw THIS one for sale it inspired me to write this because back in that day, this one CREATED my obsession that motivated me to someday want to own their products. A Chef friend had one and took me for a ride and I was SEDUCED and swore that SOMEDAY I would get a BMW. I was taken by the KINKINESS of HofMeister.

This one is for sale and it's a beauty...Start your weekend car dreams gawking over THIS!

I loved those vintage BMWs -back when they were gorgeous, distinctive and an absolute delight to drive. The 80's M3/5/6 cars were pure joy to be driven hard and made for the "real enthusiasts" back when M cars and AMG's meant something special. Now they are just commonplace commodity trim levels. Sad.

Stylistically, there's nothing with the elegant simplicity of the 2002, nor the graceful elegance of a 2800CS. There's nothing daring like the V10 M5.

I love manuals, but paddles are where it's at now if you're talking performance.

Ha good one, even I could wear that hat! Manuals may not be as fast a DCT trannies with paddles, but they are more engaging and they you do give you that last little bit of control to slip a clutch if you want etc...

Yes they are engaging, but they are as outmoded as a rotary phone. But I support your right to be a Luddite.

Test drove this M5 when new and it was memorable, just out of my price range then but not forgotten.

I was in university when this car was new. Back then an M5 was an epic car. Even if by today's standards it does not have much power. It was a treat to see one on the roads. Usually black, but sometimes red or white.

Great car. Shout out for Brooks BMW which became Towson BMW and is my current dealer. Both E46 and my E90 M3 from them.

As the original owner of several "classic" BMWs, including a 1988 M6 with 32K miles, IMHO that was the peak of automotive (not just BMW) design and engine craftsmanship. The M88/S38 is epic at 6,000 rpms.

I agree the 80's and 90's series BMW sedans and coupes were far prettier with 70's CS coupe as a standout in elegant design. I do like the M2 styling. I like it's size as well. Its not trying to be a coupe the size of the Queen Mary like the new 8 series is.
