You mean the electric "Golf" that is months behind schedule because they were heading for production and discovered that the engineering was so faulty that they had to go back to the drawing board? That is going to best Tesla?

I don't know that the Mach E will "best" Tesla or not, but it is at least a credible effort.

VW's "effort" is ridiculously terrible as usual.

And is ID3 the best they can do for a name? VWID3 does not roll off the tongue.

It's a much smaller car, less range and performance, doesn't have software perks (Autopilot, streaming video, dashcam, video games, easter eggs, etc. etc.) and their software engineering in general leaves much to be desired.

If it's cheap enough it might grab some market share or better yet, expand the market. At the same price there is no way anyone is picking this up over a 3 or Y.

With xenophobic, jingoistic Europeans, VW can sell total garbage and win--because they do so now--and the Europeans not only buy VW's turds, but they sneer at brands with far better quality and reliability (Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Honda).

If they can get 150-200 miles of range, and sell it at the same price as the Golf it could be a huge success...

That would only cut at most $2,500 off the price of a Model 3. I guess they could sell the $35k base Model 3 for $32.5k to match the id3, but there would be major compromises (no basic autopilot, performance hit, lots of features disabled, under 200 miles of range)
