Tesla's Latest Update For Model S Performance Cements It's Position In Supercar Territory
Tesla has updated its Model S Performance, its flagship electric sedan, to advertise a 0 to 60 mph acceleration in just 2.3 seconds.

Back when Tesla introduced the new P100D version of the Model S with the ‘Ludicrous Mode’ for an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds in 2016, the Model S took the crown of the ‘Quickest Production Car in the World’.

Literally NO ONE thinks of the Tesla S as a supercar. Dumb headline.

Dumb headline? Isn't that rule of thumb at Autospies?

I got confused. I didn't see a Kardashian mentioned.

Supercars (and even non-supercars) get driven on the Ring and benchmarked.

Tesla is deathly afraid of the ring. I'm still waiting for the Taycan beater that was promised 6 months ago.

That Taycan beater only exists in Elon's head.

Plaid motors are coming this year. It's not far from the Taycan already with the latest updates (which also improves thermal endurance by 3x... more launches back to back without throttling).

I look at it like a game of chess for the overall EV market. The Plaid motor will definitely beat out the current Taycan. That will force Porsche to up their game and either release an even better Taycan, which would require it to outperform the 911. OR they could electrify the 911. In either case, both Tesla and Porsche win--consumers and EV enthusiasts also win.

I think Tesla knows that the overwhelming majority of people who buy sedans are not going to race them on the ring, they are going to drive them to work with an occasional opportunity to humiliate some guy in a Corvette at a stop light.

And the Tesla driver goes to jail because they lost control and crashes into a bunch of parked cars. Seriously, street racing is illegal and dangerous. You want to race? Take it to a drag strip or a proper race track.

Think we shouldn't stereotype Tesla drivers. Not all Teslas do 0-60 in sub 3 sec., many are great GT cars.

Yes, that happens 100% of the time. It's why no one likes to park their car near stoplights anymore.

If it doesn't turn or stop like a supercar, it doesn't matter how fast it goes 0-60, it's not really a useful feature and if fact may be a safety issue in that most drivers would not be able to handle it (not even talking about their novice skills, just the lack of suspension/steering/brakes and too much weight).

Dubious driving dynamics? Have you actually driving a P100D or Model S Performance? Braking and handling are insanely good for a car that size.

There's a hell of a lot more to a supercar than 0-60. Yes it's fast, not repeatable fast, but fast for the first couple of bursts. Other than that it's a portly fat pig sedan with shitty seats and dubious driving dynamics. Put it this way, on my favorite country road, the Model S would stay in the garage and I'd rather take something like a Miata (although I'd prefer my Porsche).
