Battle Of The GIANTS: BMW X7 Vs. Cadillac Escalade Vs. Lincoln Navigator Vs. Mercedes GLS Vs. Range Rover

Battle Of The GIANTS: BMW X7 Vs. Cadillac Escalade Vs. Lincoln Navigator Vs. Mercedes GLS Vs. Range Rover
Short of a Rolls-Royce Cullinan which is in a league of its own, there are only a handful of extra-large 7-seater luxury SUVs that can satisfy your extreme needs for household levels of space and comfort, and the newest one to join the party is the 2021 Cadillac Escalade.

The new Escalade broke cover back in February, with Cadillac now officially accepting reservations, which means that if you order today, you’ll be able to drive off in your big Caddy sometime later this year once production resumes.

As a family hauler, it would be the BMW or Merc for me. They are the best compromise on space and drivability/handling. The American trucks are just not agile enough for me, and would annoy me navigating the grocery store parking lots. I like the Rover, but the lack of a 3rd row is a deal breaker.

GLS all day, combines the best ride/utility, a design that will age well and not as polarizing as others along with one of the best interiors/infotainment systems in the biz

While the X7 is by far the best looking of these I would probably lean towards the GLS. Its a Mercedes after all and that is real status, IMO.

...Too bad the GLS looks like a Honda Pilot from most angles.

The X7 is at least distinctive and premium-looking.

I agree and have reconsidered. Lease the X7 though, but yes, its really fantastic looking...

The best looking is the GLS, followed by the X7 and that's the order in which my money would go. I actually don't classify the Navi and Escalade in this same category b/c they are just so large in comparison. The Benz and BMW are more like med-large SUVs where the Lincoln and Caddie are truly large. For the starting price, the RR should really have a 3rd row option. Even the RR Sport has that option.

Even on a lease the Range Rover is too unreliable to tolerate.

I'd go with the X7.

The GLS is just too dull, generic, and outdated looking.

The Escalade looks like a giant Traverse so brand differentiation is a total fail.

The Navigator is an excellent product, but the styling leaves me cold. There's just not anything there to make me want it.

Also, the Escalade will be available well before the end of the year. Production is restarting soon and the Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade are pent-up demand vehicles, so they will be prioritized over cars like the Rentabu.

whoever can turn theirs into EVs first wins by landslide

Highly debatable. Many of these family trucksters tow things like horse/travel/toy trailers all of which would dramatically compromise range. Many family trucksters are "always on" playing kid taxi such that a charge time--should it be needed--does not fit the schedule.

but none of them can drive like a Cayenne.

And the Cayenne is for DINKs or empty-nest types.

I agree with the comments in regards to new GLS. Its too boring , generic and very plain for a big SUV. That design looks perfect on the GLE. I sometimes think the GLS from a distance looks like a mini GLB... Thats not good. Like an E Class to a C class sometimes. The new X7 gets my choice. Its chisled and very handsome looking for a big SUV. The interior quality is damn perfect.

After my BMW ownership experience, never again! I had a pretty major engine rebuild. Thankfully under warranty.

One never buys German. One leases them.

One never buys American, one leases them. For the past 10 years I have own over 9 german cars and I have not had problems with any of them compared to nagging issues with my Japanese cars (Infiniti or Lexus). I only had some major problems with a BMW which was resolved without issues after the first few months. Use to have american cars including Jeep, GMC, Ford with constant issues and poor customer service. I have gone through Americans than Japanese and now Germans. Experience counts more than assumptions.

Yes, a data pool of one erases the data of all the rest. Yes, that is exactly how statistics works.

Mdarringer, when I look at your comments I am a little confused to as to how you continue to post commments on these forums.. You are purely an american car salesman in a way based on what I read and you have no idea about automotive innovation, ideas or insights. Everything I have read and analyzed from you show me you are either a pessmistic moron or someone who cannot accept the fact the american companies have been failing for a long time coming and you yet still have this hedonistic ability to accuse foreign brand that they are useless and give your gibberish stupid comments about how they should perform. You have no experience with general car marketing and sales to be honest and you are just trollling here. Accept the fact that your GMC is losing out on the sedans as well as Ford and you guys cannot admit you screwed it up. Its simple as that. You keep mentionng american cars but heck GMC, Ford and Chyrsler gave up on their sedans. Goes to show how idiotic they are to do this... No prestige or commitment... They couldnt accept the fact that their sedans are crap.. I careless about their SUVs or minivans.
